This is going to be a good month. Got my vacation payout from my last job today. New employer's payroll is every other week instead of bi-monthly so September is a 3 check month. Now I just need to keep the promise I made to myself about not buying new parts until I get all or most of the current ones I have installed.
So i've been dealing with some **** for the past 2 years with my stomach. Went to a 5 star specialist for that ****, they put a camera down my throat to look at my stomach etc. This friday I went to another dr and got a second look. That dr looked at the image for a second and saw something the other one missed. This doc says i got a hiatal hernia. Going in for tests next sat to confirm and then surgery.
Long story short get more than 1 opinion. Not all docs are good.. even the highly rated ones.
Cause... it started about the time when i was doing heavy legs so theres a high chance that caused the initial tare.

Ugh, glad he found it though, pains like this really drain your energy. I had a very minor brush in with hernia after squats. Did yours just feel like an uncomfortable pressure or weight on the area?

Well the bigger problem is that my stomach never closes. the flap that closes the stomach never closes. Extreme acid reflex doesn't come close to describing it. Another side effect is nausea.
What i feel is every morning i feel like my stomach will rupture. Like there's a huge bubble just bellow the rib cage right above the stomach. And of course as i said, extreme gerd symptoms.
Coouple of times i've woken up and I cant breathe because of the "bubble" pushing on my lungs.

I used to go very heavy on the leg press and i always felt pressure in my stomach. My guess is after i started reaching 10 plates per side on that machine the pressure forced the stomach in there or something. Again sat is my appointment for a scan so we'll confirm it then.
so for 20+ years i never slept through the night. as soon as i'd lie down, my stomach would boil over and i'd get up and take a couple of tums. i'd go through a large bottle of tums in 10 days. in 1998 i had a procedure called a "nissen". it was described to me as twisting the top of your stomach like a paper bag around the esophagus. i was given the choice of having this done or taking a pill every day for the rest of my life. i chose the surgery. i was warned that <10% of patients can no longer burp after having this done. if that's the case you have to keep a pill in your pocket to take when you feel like you need to burp. i'm proud to say i can burp with the best of them, and i have not taken a single antacid since. not a one.
a friend had the same condition but did nothing about it. he died last year of esophageal cancer. i'd highly recommend you get your hiatal hernia fixed.
Yeah thats definitely the plan. I go in for tests if its there then i'm going in for surgery asap. I admit i've had many unpleasant thoughts about my life that i'm not too proud of while dealing with this issue.

The Nissen is a fairly minor surgery as surgeries go, but no surgery is risk-free. A friend of mine had this surgery and never woke up from the anesthesia. That's pretty unusual, but it's something to consider when thinking about the "take a pill every day" option. The pills really aren't all that expensive, nor are they hard to take. Of course, now there's some theory that the PPIs (Prilosec, nexium, etc) might be related to dementia, so it pretty much sucks all around.
My advice (as with any surgery) is to get a second opinion from a doctor who isn't associated with the first one. Make sure you talk to a gastroenterologist, not just a surgeon. Surgeons are much more likely to recommend surgery -- after all, that's what they do. A GI is likely to explore the possible non-surgical options first.
Having been under the knife twice in three years, I can say that it sucks, but is usually worth the end result. I'm happy to have regained nearly full use of my right hand, and to not have had a burst appendix.

I sit 5 out of 7 days of the week mostly at work. Any quick tips on how I can be more active in the afternoons after work? Gym will eventually come down the road but not in the cards at the moment...

The anesthesia risks are quite high actually. Yes i have talked to a gastro specialist. He's the one that missed it when he put the camera in my stomach.
step one is don't eat thirds (or seconds) and stop buying cookies/chips/crappy empty calories.

Alcohol though, mostly liquor & some beer but I've seen a huge increase in weight gain since I've started drinking heavy the past 2 years. Plus sitting 40hrs a week now vs past jobs
I started homebrewing and working a desk job and put on like 30lbs in a years time. Having fresh beer on tap is not something I can resist, so I'm in the process of selling my keezer and going back to bottling to slow down my consumption. I'm also on the treadmill every day now for at least an hour after work. It doesn't sound like much, but its made a huge difference. Baby steps I guess. I'm hoping to start riding a bike or something soon because the treadmill is boring as ****.
After a late night trip to the emergency room last week on Tuesday I'm back to work and off the pain killers. I've got a few more days of the antibiotics that are killing my stomach, but that's not nearly as bad as an infection so I can deal with it. I spent most of the last week in an opiate haze on the couch watching Netflix so I'm glad to be back =)
Went to war with the fire ants this weekend armed with some Demon WP. Drench treated the existing mounds, then broadcast treated the entire yard with some Ortho granules, and then sprayed the perimeter of the house with more Demon WP.
Does anyone have a better (reasonably priced) sprayer solution this the poly cheapies like this?
These stupid things never last more than 2 uses for me. A million plastic valves and cheap o-rings are just designed for failure. At $12-20 apiece, I guess I can just keep buying a new one every 6 months, but if I could spend, say...$50-75 for something that would last and work well. I'd do it. But my searches so far have only found pump sprayers that are $40-50 with marginally better construction (and very mixed reviews), or the professional metal units for $200+.
