I'd assume you just run your romex like you normally would. Plastic boxes are fine. Though i wouldn't sling it over the joists, I have runner boards in my attic (and garage attic which as a floor) that protect the wire on either side. It sort of makes a nice channel and then you just screw the wire to the top of the joist. **

Is Alhambra under LA City electrical code? That was literally* the most brutal inspection I've ever been through. They actually made me put a plug onto the 3-phase, 60 amp feed into a broadcast transmitter, because the transmitter wasn't UL certified (none are), and they didn't want it to be wired as a "fixture."

Then, at the next job, they'd pulled a Home Depot extension cord up through the wall, across the ceiling, back down another wall, and into the outlet intended for the fridge in the break room, because the single 20A circuit in the studio (which had been an office at a small law firm a few weeks prior) wasn't cutting it, and the inspector didn't give a ****.
Any of you gheys get the new S8? Just got an offer for one, direct through Sprint for $200 (8.xx a month). My S4 is nearing its useful life. Battery is starting to take a **** and the OS locks or slows at times. My original plan was to get an older model at a discount but 200 aint bad. What say you lovers of the ****?
I recently replaced my Droid Turbo with an S8 due to rapidly declining battery life. The S8 is a nice phone with a very attractive design, that naturally gets covered with a bulky case. The S8 is missing a few features that I liked on my Turbo, namely gesture recognition to wake and the ability to access the Google assistant via voice command but otherwise it's a solid entry. The tall and narrow shape takes some getting used to, but I like the fact that it fits more comfortably in my pocket. The screen is gorgeous, the performance quick and snappy. Bixby seems to be pointless at the moment, but they're supposedly working on it and I've heard that it's possible to remap the button to the Google assistant. I'm not blown away by the battery life, but it seems to be in-line with what most phones are offering now. Personally I'd gladly trade 1/8" thickness for a huge battery, but it seems the market drives otherwise. In short, if you need a new phone the S8 is a solid option, but I don't think it's good enough for someone to drop a phone with which they're currently happy.

I have an old software called Dolphin that only runs on XP 32bit - it has both server and client options. It uses MSSQL.
My newly purchased rig (Dell T20) will be running Server2012. My workstations/clients will be using Win7.
Can I virtualize XP on my rig running Server 2012 and virtualize XP on my workstations running Win7 and have Dolphin communicate between the 2 like a server/client?

Technically it's XP -> XP through virtualization. As long as the virtual settings are correct I don't see why not.
Before you try virtualization, have you tried compatibility mode?
Yeah, compatability mode doesn't work for code that just absolutely needs to run in a 16/32 bit environment. We used to have the same problem here when we were using a very old DOS copy of FoxPro as our cabling database. Everyone else had physical XP machines on their desk, I created a VM with Oracle V-Box and ran XP in it.

I've got a bunch of XP VMs doing essentially the same thing. My favorite is the one that runs the software that controls our HVAC system. WinXP pre SP1, Flash 5.xx and IE6.x. Any deviation from the specific versions and nothing works. Stupid legacy software.

VMWare Free used to be great. It was the only virtualization software that I used. But then they started to get really weird about the licensing. First they switched the free users over to VMWare workstation, then they discontinued the free version, then brought it back but hid it very well (and constantly advertised to you to upgrade), etc.
So I switched to Oracle Virtualbox. The performance is basically the same, but they make it easy to download and use. It's also pretty light on the host. I have a copy running pretty much constantly on my home PC which contains a copy of Win7 (with an 8 year old Core i5-750) and I barely even notice it's there.
When you turn in your resignation at work (giving a full month's notice), and even after the "What can we do to make you stay? Do you want money? A corner office? My office? Is there someone we need to fire?" phase is over, the general manager and the VP pretty much beg you to at least stay on an extra month.
Makes walking away from this place all that much harder... But I did talk to the folks in NC, and they agreed to the extra month after making sure I was ok with it.
