Wait, so he just slapped the shipping label directly on the wheels? I'm surprised UPS took them like that.

tires != wheels

There are places that wont ship without cardboard. I've been hassled for shipping wheel/tires with just cardboard on each flat side. I'm pretty sure it was UPS.

I know! I cant believe UPS even took them.

If I had to guess I would say I've shipped roughly 10 sets of wheels and/or tires. It would have been so much easier to just slap stickers on them, but I would never do that to the guy that bought them from me. Knowing very well that UPS would throw them around like it was a ******* game.

The wheels are pretty beat up looking. I'm going to take them to my tire guy now and hopefully he can mount them without a hitch. Assuming I can fit everything in the Taurus.

The UPS shipper's book says you can ship tires bare, but doesn't mention wheels....

UPS only covers $100 per shipment by default, did he insure them for $200?

I run into this **** all the time, people think because no preclusion is stated, then it's allowable. They are wrong and UPS never should have accepted those. It's called "negligence" and they're guilty of it.

However you paid so little that you should spraypaint them and deal with it.

Yeah, if you read that page in the shipper's manual, it's pretty clear that they are listing the items that they allow without packaging -- in other words, the exceptions to the standard policy. If it's not on that page, it shouldn't have been allowed.

EDIT:

Actually....I might be wrong. UPS does in fact have a provision for "Irregularly Shaped Items and Bare Metals". It reads:

Tape the address label on a flat surface of the item being shipped. Cover the label with clear tape. Do not use "flying tags" attached by string or metal. Blunt all sharp or protruding edges with taped-on, corrugated cardboard pieces. Protect the surface of the item as needed. An Additional Handling charge will apply.
So, technically, UPS was right to accept the wheels unpackaged, as they were bare metal and (presumably) had no sharp or protruding edges. The mistake was the seller not protecting the wheels, but we knew that already, and I'm betting that UPS isn't liable for damage on unpackaged "Irregularly Shaped Items and Bare Metal" shipments.

Exactly. Even the bare minimum was too much to ask. Jesus christ.

I already wrote the guy a PM saying that the wheels were shipped unboxed and got beat up. Also that his mention of "curb rash" would be better described as "curb gouge". I said I was taking them to the tire shop and that hopefully they aren't bent and mount up without a hitch.

My tire buddy told me that one needed a lot of weight but that it should be ok and to just slap it on the rear. So as long as the car drives straight down the road when I put them on tonight, I'll be happy.

I guess I expect everyone to pack and ship things like I do, and maybe I expect to much sometimes, but this was just dick. No effort what so ever...and for the record, UPS is the worst company I have EVER dealt with in my life. So I'm not even going to waste my time with them.

BTW Pusha, I dropped the wenis dryer off while I was waiting for the tires to get mounted.
