Why is this stuff never local? Some dude lucked out like you wouldn't believe.

http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/cto/1818021551.html

1994 Mazda Miata MX5 Manual (with Hardtop) **SOLD** - $1000 (135th and S. Cicero Ave)

**SOLD** This car has been sold within the hour after the posting. THANK YOU ALL for interest. I was not able to keep up with the calls. **SOLD**

For sale - a red Mazda Miata with a hard top in a good condition. Car has a clean title with "not original miles" mark, but the VIN numbers on engine and car match + I have dealer-pulled "Carfax" and IL state records dating back to the car having 25K miles on it. It is possible to clean the title – already checked with the secretary of state and have the paperwork ready, as it was a seller’s mistake during the last transaction. In any event, right now the car has 108K miles on the odometer, so if it were broken, I would keep it at 25K to make it a “collectible” : - ) It also has an airbag light on, which stayed on for the last 8K miles for me, so probably not a big issue... As mentioned, this is a stick shift car. It was a daily driver that I never had any issues with, and had all fluids replaced at 60k miles. Right now I have a need for a 4-door car and she must go. This one will be a perfect car to polish your manual tranny skills or to get you to work cheaply and in a fun-to-drive little car. If interested, please leave a message at (xxx) xxx xxxx.

**SOLD**

So this guy is asking about 17" wheels for a NB SE (our MSM) and I give my helpful suggestion as usual only to be followed by some n00b dipshit with this typical reply

You'd think that putting 17"s on a turbo NB would cause the world to fall apart and I'm sick of seeing people spout this **** off at every opportunity. So I reply...

With a comeback of...

Mind you, his signature reads "96M DD, Occasional Autox....RB intake, Cobalt Exhaust, FM stage 2.5 (stock rear bar) SS lines, Hawk HP+, 14 degrees BTDC...Rims and Tires are next!"

What a ******* tool. He has sent me 2 (TWO!) PMs regarding this post....in the past two weeks. I love it...

Yeah...I really want to take the time to reply to him after that last one. Maybe his lost sleep will result in brain damage preventing him from knowing how to use the internet.
I'm so sick of seeing everyone just jump to "17's suck 15's are the ONLY way to go" bullshit. Then comes the whole rotating mass argument. Yes, I know about that, but there are still too many variable to just say that 17's suck compared to 15's. Besides that, a lot of these "reviews" on switching from 17's to 15's or 16's rave about ride quality...which is most likely improving because of better/newer tires. Yeah, going from a 20+lb 17"s wheel to a 16lb 15" will be a small improvement, but going from a **** tire to a nice tire will make a bigger difference in handling...and that has nothing to do with weight. Not that I can calculate it, but there has to be a point in which a lighter 17" wheels will out perform a normal or heavy 15" on rotational mass. Tire weight aside for now, I'm sure a 14lb 17" wheel is better than a 18lb 15" wheel....or for those in the real world...a 205-50/15 tire mounted on a 15" Diamond Racing steel wheel vs a 215-40/17 tire (same brand/model tire) on a 14lb 17" rim. Seriously though, the differences are small (even smaller when applied to a Miata making 250+rwhp) and most people suffer from the placebo effect when switching because they want to feel a difference. Poor decisions can be made when buying both 15" wheels and 17" wheels.
I posted.

Anybody got an idea of what to do with the hole left by removing the passenger side airbag? I was thinking of making a little shelf to keep my netbook on. Anybody sell a fiberglass/ABS/ any kind of panel that isn't ridiculously expensive?

Once I do my 1.6 dash swap I will sell you my stock cover that I removed from the airbag for cheap.

Fishtank, that'd be badass to have goldfish swimming around for your passenger to watch while you're boosting all over the place.

In other news, I'm trying to sell the Saab since I picked up a G20 for the wife to drive. I listed it on CL starting at $2400 a while ago and dropped it to $2200 today. That's still high, but I'd be ecstatic if I could get $2000, satisfied if I could get $1800, and a little bummed if I got $1500-1600.

So I asked the wife to take it to Carmax yesterday just to see what they'd offer. $1000. Sucks. At least I know what my bottom line is now, right?

Does the cover come off the airbag assembly? I was under the impression that it wouldn't work like that.

Only reason it is coming out is my driver side is already gone, and there is weight savings to be had. Plus why do I want my passenger to live if I die, their *** is coming with me.

Yes it is held on by like 6-8 8mm nuts. You can remove it from the airbag and reinstall it with some minor mods.

Well damn, I'll just do that then. I thought the cover was part of the airbag itself. Second best would be some kind of shelf for mounting my netbook for future tuning, if I can ever get the ball rolling on actually building a turbo miata.

Not hard at all. Just pull off the glove box and you it's all right behind there. you just have to make some ducting that allows the air to go from the blower to the heater core since the A/C components are usually there. (And damn that **** is heavy)

I know it's a shitty picture... but you can see the heater core/ducting in the center... then on the far right the blower. So just pull out the A/C section which is like 2-3 10mm bolts and connect the two.

Yah it is just a few nuts holding it on. I don't remember exactly how many, but it was not hard at all to get it off. I pulled mine 3 years ago and have not looked back.

There is a stock tube to connect the two.

I just had the weirdest ******* haircut of my entire life.

The place I go to is called Tony's in San Marcos. It's owned by Tony, a wisecracking Italian guy from Brooklyn. You go in and sit on the grungy old sofa, pick up a copy of Field & Stream, listen to Tony & Gino bicker until you're up, and then it's hot lather time. A real, honest-to-gods old-school barber shop.

So I go in, and Tony's not there. Decided to take a month-long vacation. Gino's gone, too. Instead, there's some scruffy fellow with a goatee who looks like a cross between The Dude and an ex-con wearing parachute pants.

Seems reasonable.

There's nobody else in the shop (which is unusual) so I plop down in the chair and we get to work. Standard cut, short on the top, fade in the back, and heavy on the thinning shears.

As soon as we start, he starts talking about metaphysics. Lays into me about the frequencies and vibrations of the universe, the various densities and plains in which my subconscious exists, how our spiritual DNA is shaped by negative and positive energy, fulcrums of transference...

What the ****? Dude, Berkeley is about 500 miles north of here, and I think they may still have some acid left.

Now, I'm an engineer, not a physicist, but even I can tell when someone's knowledge of quantum mechanics came from the back of a cereal box. So when he starts babbling about string theory and duality, well, let's just say that human evolution has embedded in every one of us an instinct not to disagree too strongly with a man who is waving very sharp knives an inch from some of your more delicate sensory organs.

Seriously, I thought that all his New Age post-hippie **** was behind us. And this guy didn't even seem like your typical burnout- he was totally clear and articulate- and totally serious.

And now the capper. Here's his book: 21st Century Jedi: Spiritual Athletes on the Cosmic Chessboard

Yeah...

I am going to have words with Tony when he gets back.

Ah yes that would make sense since not all cars had A/C. When my buddy removed his he just made one out of cardboard that worked fine... and free. Recycle ftw.

Anyone ever order lighting stuff from Daniel Stern? Is he always so damn slow with orders. I placed my order like a week ago, and still no reply. I guess I could always call, but I haven't gotten around to it. I just canceled because I got tired of waiting. Just lost out on a $120 order.
