I used to have a Tippmann 98 custom shop sniper w/ the flatline barrell and a remote tank that hooked on my belt. **** was so fresh when I was in middle school

About ten years ago, I picked up a demo CD at a trade show from a company whose name I have long since forgotten. You had to listen to it through headphones, but any old stereo headphones would do- nothing special about them or the CD player.
The demo consisted of a first-person-perspective recording of various snippets of "everyday" audio such as getting a haircut, shampoo and blow-dry, having a paper hat placed onto your head and adjusted to fit, walking out the door of the barber shop and onto a street-corner listening to traffic and other ambient sounds, etc.
Were it not for the lack of the accompanying tactile sensations, with your eyes closed you would believe that you were actually experiencing these activities in real life. It was absolutely surreal how well the system worked.
I wonder if I still have that disc somewhere...

I was on vacation in San Antonio and stopped by Bjorn's (Google "Bjorn's Ultimate Room") for a tour. While I was in the room with the $200k McIntosh amps and B & W speakers, the salesman played a track that had some unusual sounds accompanied by a piano that sounded like it was far beyond the scope of the right speaker. I've been scrounging the internet since then, trying to find that song.

It was on the best 2.0 system I've ever heard in my life. You're listening to the song and everything is within the bounds of the two speakers. All of a sudden, a piano fades in, directly to your right, far beyond the right speaker and where you would expect any sound to come from that right speaker. The imaging was awesome.

Thought about it but we decided to keep them since 2 of the guns are full auto and a popular local place to play doesn't allow full auto. After looking a little closer at what we got, the Spyder that my brother called dibs on looks to have came with the remote tank thingie, but I can't stand the way you can't "aim" a Spyder, so I'm fine with the Tippmanns.

In other news, I went to a Miata circlejerk, err...meet, this past Friday put on by the Peak to Peak Miata Club and was surprised to find that 5 of the 12 cars there were FI. Prior to that I'd only seen one other in town (FM1 with bandaids). And nobody else there was a member here, probably for the best after chatting with them (bunch of M.netters), but still a curiosity. Four turbo'd cars and one super (an NC with an FM built bottom end and Cosworth super...only making 225whp per the owners request...lol). Maybe it's just because FM is here in state? Are there really that many boosted Miatas running around?

Basically you just record with Mics on your head in the ear positions or via a dummy head. And when you play it back with buds or headphones your ears more or less receive what the fake ears picked up.
I first tried this out when I was 13. I had a recording going on a dummy head. And my Mom came in and told me to come to dinner NOW. I forgot about that. Later I was listening to the recording and was not overly wowed. Then I "heard" Mom open the door and order me to dinner. I thought it was her! I was startled when I looked over to the door and noone was there...

Yeah, I guess if you thinned it out a bit with mineral spirits it would resemble sludge.
I have no idea how the hell my clutch was still working at all. The pedal had gotten a bit "loose" but if I pumped it a couple of times it came back. Was like that for months, finally decided to just replace the whole hydraulic system.
The slave wasn't leaking much (as compared to how much they usually leak when they fail) but it was in rough shape, too. I think the only thing keeping the boot together was force of habit- it disintegrated as soon as I removed the slave cylinder from the transmission.
Handy tip: changing the rubber clutch line is actually quite easy. Detach it from the upper hardline and mounting bracket, but leave it connected to the lower hardline. Remove the one bellhousing bolt which holds the bracket that the lower end of the hose is secured to, and remove the entire hose / bracket / lower hardline assembly as a unit. Once on the bench, photograph it from several angles before you disassemble it, so you can re-assemble it in the proper orientation before re-installing as a complete assembly.
I saw the rig that they used to make the recording, and it was as you described; a dummy head with anatomically-correct ears and ear canals, with microphones mounted where the eardrums would be.

Will be starting with just two classes two days a week. 11 years after leaving highschool I have returned to being a student....with ID and a parking permit. This will be a new thing to get used to come August 26th. Now to play the "select my classes carefully" game so I don't take anything that won't transfer when I change schools in a couple of years.

Remove the one bellhousing bolt which holds the bracket that the lower end of the hose is secured to, and remove the entire hose / bracket / lower hardline assembly as a unit. Once on the bench, photograph it from several angles before you disassemble it, so you can re-assemble it in the proper orientation before re-installing as a complete assembly.

Just realized that both of my Miatas are now several years older than my first Beetle was when I bought it.
