Flow rate increases expoentially with an increase in diameter size.

cross-sectional area:

A=pi*(d/2)^2

3.14 x (1.25)^2 = 4.90625

3.14 x (1)^2 = 3.14

volume:

V=L*pi*r^2 - comparing two 10" lengths of different diameter.

V = 10" x 3.14 x 1.25^2 = 49.0625
V = 10" x 3.14 = 31.4

so 56% more flowzzzzzzzzzzzz with a 25% increase in diameter.

Edit: nice math, fae. :confused:

I dont know why you calculate volume instead of volumetric flow but the numbers work out the same.

my 4" inlet is 300% more flow than a 2" inlet.

Where is Boost Jewce when you need him?

i was getting there but got bored of doing math.

where did you get 19.6 sq.in. and 12.6 sq.in. from?

even if you had done a square: 2.5 x 2.5 = 6.25 sq.in.

Pie times radius^2. Area.

xturner 04-05-2012 02:19 PM

Umm - I think 2" is diameter, not radius.

2.5 D = 1.25 r

3.14 * 1.25^2 = 4.90625

cheers.

Do I really need to wire-in the switch and light of the LC-1? I'd rather not and just touch the black wire to GND when I want to calibrate.

rleete 04-05-2012 05:37 PM

Sheesh, how hard is it to ground a wire? Then it's there, and you don't have to fart around with it.

No switch or light required. Just touch it to gnd.

It's a bitch actually. Right now I'm running 3 ground wires (sensor, heater, gauge)If I add the light and switch that's an additon gnd for the light and additional wire for the switch to take the calibration wire to gnd. So it grows to 5 ground wires and half a roll of wire. Then I have to mount the both. Then, I get to loom it all again on the inside of the car. It's a pain in the ass. I wish the MTX-L had the old DB numberical gauge.

rleete 04-05-2012 05:46 PM

What the heck are you grounding to? AFAIK, you don't have to use the same ground as your MS, just find a spot close to where you want the switch.

(I'm sure someone will tell me I'm full of crap.)

Bryce 04-05-2012 05:49 PM

Ground the switch and light wherever you want. I have mine grounded near the radio, and the light is mounted in a hole in the rectangular cap low on the left side of the center console. Its the cap that you remove to get access to the 2 lower bolts for removing the dash. I don't have a switch wired in. When I want to calibrate, I just remove the tape around the positive side of the led and touch it to ground.

Godless Commie 04-05-2012 06:35 PM

Hustler, the light also throws a code in case something goes wrong with the WB. Makes life easier to invest an extra 10 minutes to install them.

hustler 04-05-2012 06:41 PM

So the switch completes the circuit on the calibration wire to go to ground. I take the red wire from the light to the black calibration wire. Where does the black light wire go that it won't ground the calibration wire?

I haven't wired this in a few years, lol.

Vegetarians piss me off. Vegans especially.

They're all hypocrites, really.

I mean, eating a duck is evil, eating a pig is evil, eating cheese is evil...

But a loaf of bread? Sure, they have no problem at all tearing into that, along with the millions of yeast which were brutally murdered in the baker's oven to make it.

Why is it that something apparently has to have a face in order to be worth caring about?

blaen99 04-05-2012 11:56 PM

New engine is in, new turbo is in, new exhaust is completely in....

COPs are now in and working (Although I may have blown one, the magic smoke came out :( )

------- HELL YES ladies, I may actually be able to drive the Miata around for a day before I take it apart over stupid ---- again!

Because people are stupid.

I think my wideband is fucked up. However the car is driving pretty good.

hustler 04-06-2012 01:34 AM

On second though, I have another crack in the header and I guess it's sucking in air. ----!

I may swap headers tomorrow morning.
