I don't know anything about the application for the TT Gallardos, but I have some experience with MoTecs in other vehicle applications. I am not necessarily saying they are a great value (nor am I taking the opposite position), but they are pretty damn robust units.

I wouldn't be surprised if the people taking the "pro MoTec in a twin turbo Lambo" side of the coin ALSO don't really understand its application. John Reed or someone like him would be the person's posts to look for.

After much deliberation and rereading comments from actual depowered rack users, I decided to go ahead and install the belt back on.
This time I used a 3PK853 belt. Three ribs on a 4 rib pulley makes for a more stable belt somehow.

Wait were you basing depowered feel on just having the belt removed? That is the worst possible way to see if you want it depowered or not.

Yeah, $50k engines making 1500+hp and the shops buy a $5000 computer to "slam some fuel in when the boost comes on". Maybe I should give myself a little more credit and not feel so stupid about engine management all the time.
My buddy Aaron who did all of the high-end fab work and tuning of 1000-1500whp Lambos, Ferraris, etc. at a high end shop down in Sarasota used AEM ECUs as standalones in them. I know he would cringe if anyone suggested a piggyback system. He is just such a perfectionist. I think I posted some of the pics from his shop here once before.

You misunderestimate me.
I am disappoint.

Please refer to post # 16641, specifically to the sentence that reads: I'm thinking about gutting the whole system, with the welded input shaft and all.

What I mean by "putting the belt back on" is that I did not proceed with gutting the rack out, and just kept the power steering operable.

I did see that. How it read to me was that you had the belt off and were driving around and thats what made you want to keep PS. I just wanted to make sure you were not judging manual steering by just having the belt off.

No, that's not the case, at all.

The belt jumped, and I started thinking about converting to manual. That's why I asked for real life experiences from actual users.

He sounds like a ******* idiot. It's a $150k car, it should pass inspections. The perfectionist runs the tune-able computer with pass-through for the OEM computer so it keeps all OEM functionalities and passes inspection.

The government has as much business knowing you added 1500whp worth of turbos about as much as if you bought a new lawn mower.

they have the business to know whether or not the car operates by federal emission standards and it deem fit for use on a public highway for safety reasons, yes.

I never considered that cars needed to be "fit for use on a public highway" until moving out of california. They do not inspect jack for safety. Your car just needs to have fenders and lights. it could be missing important components and be legal to drive.

I dont mind our annual inspections... although I'm always failed for something silly (Last week I failed for 3 lights out, two non-DOT approved light housings, and 1 torn steering boot). But it's the only time once a year the majoirty of drivers will ever check lights, brakes, fluids, etc.

This is something I don't mind. Emissions on the otherhand....BLAH.

There are no roadworthiness inspections here, my friend. Apparently the legislature thinks minorities are unfairly targeted by them.

And motorcyclists are not required to wear helmets, either.

There are no motorcycle helmet laws either in SC. I am completely fine with it, it is a personal choice if you want to be stupid enough to not wear a helmet. There is actually a lobby here in SC that does absolutely nothing except for when legislators propose helmet laws, they then get all the bike riders in the state to call and say they don't want it. Every few years the helmet laws get proposed, and all of a sudden legislators phones don't stop ringing. The proposals are always quickly dropped.
