Mostly just boring, trivial little stuff. Like, I'd always gone by the standard rule that if you were using the Pub 1542 rate to compute Schedule C line 24b, you have to prorate the first and last days of a business trip to 3/4 of the standard M&IE rate. But it turns out that Pub 463 describes an alternate method which allows that "You can prorate using any method that you consistently apply and that is in accordance with reasonable business practice."

Well, screw that. I will consistently prorate to 100% of standard allowance. And this is clearly in accordance with reasonable business practice, since I've been billing my customers (and getting paid) under that method for years.

I've pretty much gotten to the point where there don't seem to be any big loopholes left (short of incorporating myself as a bank, issuing myself a loan, requesting Federal bailout money, and then foreclosing on myself), but I still enjoy finding small stuff like that in the tax code.

And this year, for the first time I can remember, I will be getting a check back. Not a huge one, but I'm about $40,000 short of last year in billings. (Much less international travel in 2012 for some reason. You'd think that there was a recession going on or something...)


Oh, and did anybody notice the change in lines 5 and 6 of Schedule SE Section A? Those sneaky little bastards...


Anyway, I have to say that I'm really enjoying the guest couch gags that the Simpsons has been doing lately. The Banksy and John Kricfalusi ones just about made me **** myself, and the latest one (Bill Plympton) was just ******* gorgeous. Yes, I'm a little behind...

I got to drive my friends DP autocross car last Saturday. Told him i love you dad (Doug is about 70 yrs old now) its a 1990 with fat cat suspension a 2000 engine and a Rotrex 10 inch front and 12 inch rear rims and one off aluminum flairs. 200 hp is very progressive and controllable. Car can drift on Goodyear slick take offs at will. Getting new slicks to get some traction. The progressive nature of this blower in Autocross is positive feature in my opinion. I could rarely hit full throttle while on course. Absolutely amazingly fun car to drive.
I love Doug he's the coolest guy around.

is there a difference in any of the stock 1.8 throttle bodies? aside from the newer ones having the iac belt in instead a hose connecting to the air box?

Oh and I finally got around to reading the entire series of Help Desk the last few days. Now the only problem is I have to wait for updates.

Also my turbo build should hopefully start soon, as I am going today to put an offer in on a house. It was a long wait, but since I am looking at ~$25-$35k for an entire house (cash, no mortgage bitches) I think it will be worth it. Then I just need a furnace, then the turbo parts come.

 

Trivia: Is there another kind of bourbon that does not come from Kentucky?

According to US, Canadian and EU law, products labeled "Bourbon" must be produced within the United States, but can come from any state, not just KY.

NAFTA also specifically recognizes "Tennessee Whiskey" (eg: Jack Daniels) as a form of bourbon. See "Annex 313" here: NAFTA - Chapter 3 - Annex 307.3 to Annex 315

 

No wheels on the house, but also no furnace. Which is a problem for the bank that owns it, since they wont accept a remodel loan, they already tried that and it fell through. And without a furnace you can't get any other kind of loan. So I get it for cheap. If I didn't want to live in it I could throw a furnace in and probably another $10k and sell it for $90k.

 

Just ordered enough Delrin to make bushings for the entire rear suspension, for a grand total of about 22 bucks..

I will reuse the steel sleeves from the original bushings. They have correct dimensions already. All I need to do is turn and cut the Delrin to correct size, and insert the metal sleeves in them.

I will also cut grease grooves in the sleeves and drill the arms to accept grease nipples.
