The average college student has way more dollars than sense these days. It amazed me after growing up listening to people talking about "poor college students," stepping onto campus and seeing people throw around their parents' money like crazy. I can only imagine how much worse kids would be when it comes time for me to reproduce, and those thoughts are nearly enough to make me get a vasectomy.

I never understood the concept of spending that much money on a moped/scooter. Then again I don't understand the concept of spending more than about $25 on a bicycle. And I spend a lot of time at the beach, where mopeds/scooters can be found for a dime a dozen all day long. Two of mine are Tomos, I forget what the other few are.

Strange is quite an understatement- that's downright bizarre.

Understandable. For the record I actually didn't have my own scooter/moped at college, but I and several of my friends had a sort of "shared" pool of them- a dozen or so people sharing two or three mopeds, kind of like a ***** at a frat party. There were times that they were extremely useful (ironically mostly for shuttling myself from my dorm to my car the first couple years) but once I moved to an apartment that was (not kidding) ~200 yards from the building that 95% of my classes were in, I didn't even have a use for a bicycle. Most of my scooter usage was/is at the beach, where such vehicles enjoy a sort of exemption from traffic laws much like you describe for bicycles at UF.
