Again, I'm not at the pointy end of bike tech anymore but I think few are successfully running 700c tubeless conversions in cx. 26" mtb wheels have more casing flex to absorb lateral deflections. A 700c will just pull the bead off "Burping" the air out and eventually either roll or go flat altogether unless it's run too hard to be useful offroad. The only roadbike 700 tubeless will not work without a specific rim and tire and full pressure, 85-120psi depending on rider weight.

I know tubulars are a mess and cost more to get into but the advantages are profound. Like switching your race car from bias to radials. Comfortably and safely run 25-40psi, have twice the grip and bump absorption. Add 4oz of latex based liquid sealant and they'll self seal the usual pinholes. That the wheel/tire package tends to have about 1/4lb less rotating weight is a bonus.


10 years ago, tubeless CX wheel/tires components or used wheelsets were harder to find. Now it's easy to find a good used set to get started with. The glue gets old and dries out after a few years. Every year you should deflate and test the glue by rolling the tire back and forth all the way around to make sure it's still well stuckded.

 

I'm kind of thinking about selling my HT 29er for a set of tubies. hmmm.

Forgot you have discs, I was going to say that I have a set of perfect CX wheels. White Industries hubs and Mavic Reflex rims 32x tied and soldered in the rear. Built for CX and ridden twice.

I would try tubeless first, then buy tubular rims and tires. I know lots of people run tubeless without any problems.

How fucked am I in the head that I'm getting ready to leave for the CX race at 11:00 AM and I leave a light on in the kitchen for the cats in case I end up in the hospital and want the cats to have some light? lol

 

Cats have a special coating on the inside of their lenses that allow light to be reflected back to the retina. Concordantly, vis a vis they do not need the light left on. Maybe just make sure the litter box is clean and put out an extra scoop of food.

Oh wait, you meant about going to an event that may leave your pets stranded and you in a hospital. Yeah, I have had that realization before and made appropriate accommodations. Just a sign of a pragmatic mind.

 

Finally, finished a CX race, the mud is fun.

 

So I am up at my parents house for a wedding. I found my dad's old bikes from the 90's. He would use these in triathlons.

 

While those bikes are heavy, have shitty brakes and uncomfortable hoods, they tend to ride pretty nice, are very rugged and reliable and are super stable. My first road bike back in 92' had 27" wheels, looked a lot like those relics. Schweet.

 

I think my dad probably used them from 93-96, at least that is when I can remember being dragged to triathlons with him. The races always seemed to be on cold rainy days.

This one came with a pass to AngelFire bikepark, as well as a pretty nice fullface helmet and a back/shoulder/elbow armor compression suit thing.

Super stoked, now i get to put it away for the winter. Definitely going to get a hike a bike or two in before the snow really hits though.

I did my first trip (for a race) to Angelfire in 2002! They've come a long way since then.

 

Did not unfortunately, tried to rent a bike and ride but they were booked up for closing weekend. Instead i got some **** done around the house all weekend, then went up sunday evening and bought this awesome bike. It was dumping snow up there last night when I went to pick it up, so got to have some fun in my subaru

Friday was iffy, saturday would have been AWESOME to ride, sunday was good in the morning but storms rolled in heavy. Also, this place is expanding at a pace which blows my mind. 8 new trails opened just this year, over 60 miles of new terrain in 2014 alone! Can't friggin wait to see what they do with it next year. Strangely i'm not as excited about the snow as I usually am, probably because this dope bike that i need to ride.

 

Bummer on not getting to ride. Glad I missed the snow It's hard to see what rocks you are hitting when they are all covered.

Yeah, I was blown away at their building pace as well. It used to be they had 2 racetracks and that was it, now there are trails everywhere, and it's all pretty good quality.

 

 

I've run the same set of carbon bars on three separate mountain bikes over many years. They have a few crashes, nicks and scuffs but they've been running strong with never an issue. Any sign of cracking and I'll turf them for a new one.

I've now moved onto a carbon mountain bike and will be looking for a carbon road bike in the near future. Love my CF!

I'd have no problem running good quality carbon bars on the road bike.
