If you could afford a GTR, would you buy one?

Short answer to post #1: No.
My reasoning echoes many others in here about the styling and it just seeming like a boring, "numbers game" car. No, I have not driven one, but I also don't care to. I'd rather have something I can drive, not that does all of the driving for me, also meaning a car with 3 pedals.

If you really think you can put up the same time as a pro driver in the same car because of "Science" then pony up to the bar.
I will pay for airfare for any of you guys who think you can take a GT-R to the same speed as a pro around my local track (Where they run a One Lap of America round).
But when you fail and can't match his time, you have to pay me back for your airfare x5.
Put down the MotorTrend and Road and Track 'zines.

I'd rather have a highway queen, honestly. Something fun as a DD but monstrous on the highway.
GTR is a cool car, don't get me wrong. But I drool harder for a BP Festiva or Volvo 740tic. I'm weird. I contribute nothing to this thread.

Hahaha you guys kill me, hence why I came here with the question.
As far as "affording it", yes I get that everyone's wants/needs are different and to some its a waste of money. My bills are in line I don't carry debt. I plan on purchasing land to start building a home within the next year as well. I'm not putting myself in to any sort of financial trouble doing this. I'd like to enjoy my money, rather than watch it sit. I'm only 30, so I have quite awhile to build up a surplus. In the meantime, I'll opt to play with it a bit.
Per the title, using the GTR as the main example cause it was the most expensive of the bunch I've been pondering. Thus helping me narrow down my choices which would all be a cheaper alternative. I already put a call in to the local Dodge dealership inquiring about the Hellcat, but in the meantime I've been looking around elsewhere. The mechanic I use was just talking to me this morning about Maserati's and to be honest I never thought of them really. I always figured they were out of my range and too expensive to own.
Concerning the track bros. I will still have the Miata and have actually been leaning toward wrapping it with the company colors and logo to advertise with at limerock. It would be a reason to drive it and probably the best one I could think of. I have a truck, just need a trailer and its good to go. More than likely this will happen, just have to find time for it is all.

Owing 20,000 on a ten year old performance car while you're in school would likely be considered unwise by anyone with a reasonable amount of financial sense.
that being said, do what you want.

Who knows, might get bored of it soon anyway, my bike (which I bought outright) is more than enough thrills.

I'm looking forward to it!
So yesterday I spoke with the local Dodge dealership and the rumor of only 1 Hellcat per dealer is just that, a rumor. They already have 5 on order, problem is, they don't know when they'll be getting any.
I told him that I'll gladly put down a deposit, but would need to test drive it before I go any further. I'm hoping to hear back from them today to get this underway.
Another small hiccup in all of this. I smashed my Nissan into a row of those wooden guard rail posts on the way home last night. By the time I hit one it was too late, they just kept coming. Had it towed to our shop and have the insurance adjuster coming out this week to look at it. I can only pray they total it for me.
Going to drive one of the company vehicles in the meantime, but now I have no reason to flake out on getting something new. Almost feels like it was meant to be.

Haha thanks man
Yes, I agree. I always tried to avoid it when I could by just calling the person or waiting, but obviously that wasn't the case Friday night. Lesson learned and I'm thankful I didn't hit anyone and was able to walk away without a scratch. I highly advise everyone to avoid it at all costs.
So now, the car is totaled and they are picking it up tomorrow. Going to swing by Chevy this week to look at the Z28 they have on the lot.

What about the Chevrolet SS? Sweet, sweet car. But then again I guess you're balling harder than that anyway so you'd probably go CTS-V if you do a GM sedan eh?
Speaking of which... That new CTS-V sure looks the business...

I've instructed a student with a Camaro ZL-1 at Sebring and Daytona this year. They have very competent brakes and make quite a bit of torque. And they are reasonably practical when it comes to interior space unless you are over 6 foot and wearing a helmet like I was.

Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S vs. Nissan GT-R Comparison - Motor Trend
I remember them saying the z28 was the new gtr because of its price tag.

So totally random.
I went down to speak with our mechanic about one of our trucks and we got to talking. He wants to sell me his 2010 Camaro. I've driven it before and its loud as ****, but that's about it. Nice car, but my Miata is faster.
Not what I'm looking for, but maybe the best decision to make on short notice after smashing my DD less than a week ago.
Any thoughts?
