Welcome back to civilization. +1 on the smell. I always hated it when the new people came in from Lackland...smell was horrendous. Did you end up selling or keeping the miata? I forget...

I remember people telling me my uniform stunk of sweat and sadness, so they gave me a new set at my unit, and I also remember finding sand for days after I graduated. I am currently packing my C-bag and dufflebag, and the smell of the stuff reminded me of basic.

Hes still got MCT to go to. Arty school will follow. Every Marine a rifleman. Two suggestions i would recommend you think about, while on boot leave slay as much puss as possible. And when you see Marine women esp and your mos school stay away. More trouble than its worth speaking from experience.

 

^+1 to staying away from puss that ya know or may need to cover your back one day. Also if under 21, keep your nose clean or be paranoid about drinking with others, The military doesn't mess around anymore with 15's or discharges. Seen too many go down for dumb crap. The marines do phase in tech school? While in tech stay away from any bar "the guys" vouch for. Bring a car if ya can and travel at least 20min from base, get a room if you're allowed, and slay some pink kittens. Bring xbox (or equivevelnt) and chill in your room and bide your time til allowed out on your own. Damn drinking is messing my spelling.

Also getting in a fight to prove you're "the shizznat" will get you in trouble, backing down cause the other guy is an idiot and can easily be tripped in the bathroom and accidentally have something happen means you get to continue the night and get some. Not saying ya should.

All of this +1000. I've seen a lot of people booted in my short time in the AF (3 yrs next week) for easily preventable, avoidable, and otherwise stupid ------- choices. I don't know the USMC very well, but in the AF if you keep your nose clean and kick *** at your job it absolutely pays off later on.
