I'm 19 so thats why I asked...whenever it involves these cars I'm usually the youngest.

 

I wish some of you bitches lived near me...I'm the only one I know of in town with a turbocharged Miata that's not an MSM. And all the MSM's are driven by the so-called whine 'n cheezers...and they all belong to the local Miata club, whom I'll have no part of, as most of them have never even been to our local autocross.

 

You and your parents can hang out with your miatas together!

Kung-fu,the same **** happened to me except it was like three grumpy old farts that thought there was no room for a bunch of young degenerates(their words)coming on their forum/club and making changes.

Now the local miata club is devided into two groups and there are two local miata forums,the young gearheads and the old fart winers and cheesers.

All I know is that the gearhead forum is alive and kicking and the winers and cheesers forum,well lets just say it is on life support since it re-opened.

 

when i joined the kalamazoo-area club after the other club's fallout, it was great. we would make loose meets at Gingerman Raceway during the week and drive the track for a few hours, we would go run the shoreline, a few of us would cannonball to chicago for an event, and we would do a lot of impromptu tech meetings at someone's garage with beer. it was the best club i was involved with. you just try to find people in the club you like and do stuff with them.

i don't know if it's a statement for my life or not, but some of my closest friends, including my wife, i met through my miata.

 

I'm not a member, but I've gone with them for a couple of rides. In some regards, they're pretty typical of just about *any* car club these days, in that there are a lot of folks interested in voodoo shift *****, a number of casual hangers-on, and a few hardcore motorheads. An easy way to tell is to drop by the Boll Weevil Restaurant on the 3'rd/4'th Thursday and see how many of the cars are sporting HDHCDDs and intercoolers, vs. the ones with chrome vent rings and faux wood paneling.

On the plus side however, I've never witnessed any bad politics or sour feelings. When it comes time to go driving through the mountains everybody falls into line, except of course for Abe who likes to hang towards the back a bit so he can get his turbo spooled up and go blasting up the side of each hill to catch up, then post a message to MiataPower the following day asking if anybody has a spare '99+ head he can buy.

The event calendar for this year is pretty much over, but during the summer months there's usually one or two a month consisting of a good scenic drive followed by a meal or event. One thing's for certain, these folks know the local roads.

Additionally, they seem to be somewhat "connected" in that, at last year's summer picnic, they had one of the pre-production MX5's there along with a rep from Mazda. This was a couple of months before the release, and even before ZoomZoom Live. We didn't get to drive it, but we all sat in it, fiddled under the hood, etc. Very cool.

 

Wow, now I feel pretty lucky to have two clubs in the area that are pretty motorhead tolerant (even encouraged! )....even by the old farts....

But as with anywhere you have a bunch of people meeting, you'll always find at least one a-hole. At the track, I had one instructor who drives a miata (and was not my instructor) practically yelling at me about my high tire pressures in my Azenis (he recommended 26psi HOT ) and how 1.6 brakes are fine for a spec miata so my setup should be fine even though I'm making twice the HP. My instructor who doesn't even know much about the miata turned to me and said, "Ignore that guy."

 

I still don't quite know what "butt-hurt dorks" means. Or "laksfoasinvaiohas,ghghaghaklb," for that matter.

 

I'm a little of the opposite. I like to sip wine and my car is filthy.

I'm lucky to have 2 clubs near by, an unofficial very spirited club and an official club that does the huge organized events.

the club down here in houston use to be alot more hardcore. When I got my 92 in 99 there was always 4~5 turbo cars and some S/C at the meetins. As time whent on I joined the ranks of the turbo cars. The numbers started to dwindel. I then became the lone turbo car for a while. After I started dating my GF i stopped going to the meetngs (a bit over 1 1/2 years now). Most the hardcore autoX dont even go anymore. Not that I am a hardcore autoX but now I usually see me friends on a sunday rather than a friday night meeting
