Just curious to see how many of you autocross or track your car.

I am stepping into the FI world over the next few months and am really looking forward to autocrossing and tracking a car with power. I just hope I can maintain my overall ranking with the SM2 pax.

I made the transition to 275s a few months back, so I shouldn't have an issue getting the power to the ground. Theoretically, I shouldn't have an issue making up the 0.66s on a 60sec course (difference between CSP pax and SM2 pax) , but you never know.

My car has always been a terror on the track in the turns. I am really looking forward to eating high HP/ high $$$ cars in the straights as well next year.

I will be instructing with NASA, PCA, and others I'm sure, at SP and VIR next year and I hope to do a tour or pro solo event if time/$$ permits. Hopefully I will meet some of you at a future autocross or track event.

BTW...I run one of the local autocross clubs in SE VA (www.tidewatersportscarclub.com). If you're ever in the area, running with us at ACU-4 is a must.

If you're instructing NASA @ SP this year, make sure to be my instructor and we'll have lots of super-happy-fun-time

on the track it feels right at home, on the autox course it takes getting used to, however, I'm always up there (don't compete)

I autocross, but not my turbo car. I have an ES '95 R package and the turbo is just my driver/street toy. Look in the latest Sportscar magazine for pics of me, my wife and our car in the ES results section since we were both fortunate enough to take the ES titles this year, a first for the Miata in a class normally dominated by MR2s! If you run any east coast national events next year, there is a good chance we will meet.

i auto-x very frequently, but im still NA and i run SM2...dont ask
i plan to do some track days next year, CMP and VIR, maybe a few more
i am aiming to be turbo'd before the next season starts, im already pretty close to having everything i need
i am still on street tires but if $$ permitts ill be on 275 myself before auto-x starts again, we'll see

did auto-x for a while, then finally got the car on the track and haven't looked back. our auto-x courses are on a concrete runway so it eats tires faster than a day at the track, another reason why i stopped. i'm an instructor with one of the local clubs here at texas world speedway, and go out about once a month.

I have only done one track day but I am hooked. I stopped thinking about what my next car might be and have been obsessing about how to get ready for next year. My recent set of V700s should help a little. Gingerman raceway in south-western michigan, $200 for two full days, great guys running the event, sometime in July probably, I'll post the registration info when its ready. Great experience for novices like me as well as you good drivers.

Let me know when you are headed to SP and I will let you know. If you haven't had a chance to run Shenandoah, you need to get it on your schedule. That is the best Miata track ever.

Congrats Brian! You and Tara opened a lot of eyes and gave hope to the NA Miata owners that were beginning to give up and buy a MR2. I've been trying to get one of our local ES Miata hot shoes, Ed Raymundo, to get off his *** and make a run at it again in his R, but life has gotten in the way.

I drug my feet last year with the DC Pro. I hesitated before signing up and lost out. Then when a bunch of spots opened up a week before the event, I already had other plans. I don't know if I will have the car sorted in time for the Atlanta tour, if they run it again. But only time will tell.

Thanks, we were shocked to say the least. I have heard that Ed was fast, but have never had the pleasure of running against him. I think we will see more ES Miatas next year now that everyone knows the car is capable.

I track and on occasion autocross my turbo miata. I've had a very different car to compete in so it's mostly been a neglected track rat/instruction car. That may change soon.

I was mighty impressed that you beat our local hero, Robert Carpenter. That guy is the best driver I've ever seen in person. He can jump in anything and make it fly. To beat him is amazing.

Robert is an awesome driver, probably better than I. He is always consistently fast and I screw up a lot. We have been battling for a few years and he usually gets me by a few tenths. I made the switch to the Koni 2812's and Hoosiers mid year and those both gave me some of the time I had been lacking.

but im still somewhat competatvie with most the SM2 guys running, i come in first quiet a few times against cars i should not be even close to...
i just love auto-x and can only imagine what will happen once i get out on an actual track cant wait...

Just think of the adrenaline rush that you get 45-60 sec at a time at an autocross. Now think of the same adrenalin rush for 25-30 mins straight.

You will come off the track the 1st time shaking, guaranteed!

My words of wisdom to anyone asking about track days is....

Make sure you ready to make the commitment (financially) before you head to the track the 1st time. Taking a hit from the track pipe is worst than a crack pipe. (not that I have ever smoked crack)

and get new tires (275's)
then ill be ready to go and keep going, what im really looking forward to is the high rock international...

I don't run the 275s on the track. It's too much tire. I run 225/45-15 Toyo RA-1s on the track.

The 275s are hard to catch a slide with. The rear end comes around and you counter-steer to catch it, but the amount of grip when it catches overwhelms the car and sends it off in the direction of the counter-steer. It doesn't bother me on an autocross course, but the consequences on the track could be bad.

I am learning to deal with this issue, but am not comfortable yet. It takes steering corrections like an indy car driver....a quick counter-steer then back to straight.

I'd like to see High Rock get the go ahead also. I signed the petetion a while back. That would put a track in your back yard.

I used to race quads in that area a few years back. I actually ran a few TT races at the Rowan County fairground.
