Master Yater, you were right about the vendors on Car-Part.com, first two deals fell through so far. I waited for a week from the first place and gave them a call, and they were like "oh those!? they weren't usuable." but I guess they forgot to tell me. Looks I found a wrecker in Southern VA that can do $115 shipped for the two.

annnnnnnnyway..
if you dont have it, be sure to read and memorize the last couple pages of this:
http://www.y8spec.com/miata_tech/DIFFERENTIAL.pdf
particularly the part about some magical GIANT micrometer that can measure over 7 inches. wtf. I don't have one. you'll need something that can get you in the ballpark. it can be an adjustable long-arm caliper/divider thing like this:

and a ruler.

oh yeah, just to be clear, when i got my "good" set, the first few threads were bunged up badly and the tip was a little mushroomed. i didn't feel like hassling to return them, so i fixed it with a vice and a grinder.

wow this last wrecker worked out great.
car-part.com said $50 each....when I called to order they charged me $40 each, so $80 in parts. $25 to ship it up (not too bad considering the weight and got them in two days!
now to take the assembly to a machine shop

The 86-91 NA RX-7 halfshaft is similar to the 94+ Miata halfshaft with the same ~25.25" length and the same 94/95 Miata stub shaft bolt pattern of 4x110 but it uses a larger hub shaft diameter of 28 spline by 29mm.

read it again.
I'm saying, althougth the rx-7 halfshafts will bolt up to the diff. stubs, they will not fit our in hubs...so miata specific ones are a must.
