Rental.... I tried to get the 650r I had last year but I waited too long to reserve and it's rented out right now. So I reserved a zz600 Probably going to regret it but the bmw 800gt was about $400 more.

Lots of straight and boring between Phoenix and Utah.... I assume you're thinking of Monument Valley, and or Four Corners?

Best route North would be 87 north from the East side of Scottsdale up through Payson, then take Lake Mary Rd into Flagstaff. From there, 89 North to 160 through Tuba City and Kayenta, then turn North to Monument Valley, or keep going East to Four Corners.

A good road in SE Utah is 95... take 261 north from Mexican Hat. There's a section of dirt switchbacks that climb up on the Mesa then it turns back to pavement (google Moki Dugway overlook), from there North to 95 and head west. Great sweepers along a canyon bottom. You can also stop at Bridges Nat'l Monument. Loop to the East and back down through Moab, or West through Capital Reef and south through Bryce and Kanab. You could easily spend a week doing that out of Phoenix.

Alternate route is to go East out of Phoenix through Globe and then North to Morenci and up 191 (formerly 666, 'the Devil's Highway'). From Morenci to Alpine, it's a fantastic, tight and twisty road. From there, you can take 191 North all the way into Utah if you want. Or you can turn east at Alpine, take 180 South into New Mexico, and 78 back into AZ and do 191 again (it's worth doing twice! ). You could then go west on 260 from Springerville, and do the stuff from your December post, or go North. Lots of options.

You may have hit the weather just right, as we had (hopefully) our last cold, wintry storm last weekend. Perfect riding weather right now.

I'd offer to meet up for a day of riding if you're in the Prescott area, but next week is my wedding anniversary, and I'll be otherwise occupied...

I'm never one to talk someone out of spending time out on the road on their bike, but....the AMA dirt track series is in Phoenix on Saturday. I'm driving up to watch it. Cheap tickets too. If you're in the area and don't live anywhere nearby to where the national tour visits, I'd recommend going to watch.

Arizona Mile | AMA Flat Track Race on Saturday, May 14 2016.

On my way to a Virginia Hare Scrabble victory. I have since upgraded my number plates, due to protests?

fuuuuu.... had a big reply typed up but my phone erased it. Dropped my bag in the airport bathroom and now my laptop wifi doesn't work. I'll post a big update with pics when I get to working laptop.

Did east side of the state and made it to Prescott last night. Got drenched/hailed on Tuesday. Going to do 89a up to oak Creek canyon and back today. Ended up renting a v strom instead so if you pass a blue v strom that has a top box held on by a bunch of bungee cords and rope (it fell of on 191 lol) that's me.

I think they had a round during bike week in ocean city last year. It was some sort of flat track racing and we were going to go but when we got to the gate tickets were $40 each. Would love go watch but I've got to visit family sat and sun before I leave.

If you get this in time, and it works with your schedule, I meet with some of my riding buddies for coffee at the McDonalds at Willow Creek Rd. and Willow Lake Rd. at ~0900. It's on your way out of town (depending on where you're staying) if you want to stop by.

Nice to meet you too and thanks for riding along for a bit. Made it back to Phoenix around 9 last night. Rode up to Oak Creek canyon but the traffic in sedona was ridiculous so I just went up to flagstaff then down lake Mary road to 87 then 260 to 89. Ate dinner in jerome then ran back and forth over Mingus mtn till the sun set. Taking the bike back this morning. Covered roughly 1500 miles over 4 days.

Huh, there is a motorcycle thread here. How about that.

Current stable:

2004 WeeStrom (all farkled up for adv touring)
2006 SV650 (all done up for sport riding/trackdays)
2001 ZRX1200 (Stage 3 Ivans/Pods/Full Muzzy)
1982 Honda CB750F Super Sport (bare frame disassembled currently for full restoration)
2001 Jicksah Sevenfiddy

I've done motocross, single track, general dirt, but no dirty ride right now.

I raced a NHMS (Loudon) for 4 years. Been doing trackdays for about 13 years. Did some instructing for a time.

Ridden Monticello, Thompson, Loudon, Palmer so far. I'd like to do a weekend at VIR, NJ Thunderhill and I'm super excited for the new track in Tamworth.

I have been to Deal's Gap on bikes 10 weeks total in the last 15 years. I usually organize a trip every year. I love that place. We typically rent a house at the start of the Cherohola Skyway for the week. I know most all the good rounds down there. The Dragon is just the icing on the cake....
