I went and test rode this bike 2 weeks ago. It's in a little rougher shape than it looks like in the photos, but it's mechanically solid. I had thoughts of trading my Monster in if it was really good, but it wasn't really what I was looking for. It's geared like the superbike it's based on, and it needs to really wind up through the long gears to give you a good sensation that you're in the steep part of the powerband, but by that point you're doing 90 in 2nd gear. It didn't give the same savage-feeling shove that my 2-valve Monster has right at 5k RPM. If I'd gotten it, I'd immediately do -1/+2 on the sprockets, and replace the aggravating shorty levers, and then just ride the **** out of it. Price is dropped to $5k now; whoever buys it will get a lot of bike for the money.

Had a pretty good ride up highway 89 and 89A outside of Phoenix today through Prescott to Jerome and back. There was some event in Jerome, but I managed to dodge the majority of the traffic, and only got held up on 3 or 4 miles of the good stuff.

 

My neighbor just pulled a 1963 Honda CB160 out of this storage shed and declared he wanted to sell it. Said he last had it cranked about 3 years ago.

2007 SV650, 36k miles. Has been dropped like 2 dozen times, but otherwise in decent shape. Put a new tire on it. Going to kill myself by riding it to nebraska in october.

But its fuel injected, and was cheap.

SV650s are kind of like stock Miatas: you can flog the **** out of them and feel like you're getting everything they've got to give. And they're just fun.

I swapped the fork springs out for something that wouldn't bottom out under braking and just rode the **** out of mine. Even took it on a couple of road trips... but mine didn't have clip-ons...

 

Yeah, not sure what I'll do about the fork, don't want to put a bunch of money in, but it feels like ***.

Probably will get a windshield for the ride.

 

IIRC fork springs were ~ $100, but that was 12 years ago. They were an easy swap with the simple forks.

A flyscreen and soft bags made it a decent traveler.

My biggest complaint about long distances on my 06 naked is the stock seat. A lot of people just reshape the foam on the stocker.

Now that I hear the name, I remember Sonic springs were what I used in my SV. Worked great, and he's still in business, so they must be good!

 

Most of the same era GSX-R swaps on, as far as suspension goes. Cool bikes.

I miss my 2004 R6. Haven't ridden since I binned it at Hallett pretty bad about 10 years ago. I have a permanent limp and had a nasty concussion.

 

Sv was perfect. I prefer 4 wheels, and the Miata is still faster but this thing is fun to cruise around on and my gf loves it. Something about vibrations?

 

best to swap to a GSXR front end and a zx10r rear shock. i did this about 6 years ago to my SV and still love the handling.
stock suspension is a soft wobbly mess.

 

That would be best. But not happening on this $1000 bike. I'll toss $100 of spring at it to make it not bottom out over pebbles in the road, but nothing more.

 

Quality shock oil makes a world of difference, more than you'd think.

 

Was including new oil with the spring change. Boy my *** is sore. And not for the usual reasons.

I've ridden the S and it was absolutely completely epic. Can't go wrong with that bike. Amazing.

On the "city" map it felt like a big friendly toy. Smooth, still fast, fun. On the sport map it was just more everywhere, with a bit of a hit in the middle. On the highest map... race? It just wants to wheelie anytime you crack open the throttle, absolutely brutal and so much fun.

If I had stayed in Portland I would've bought one this spring.
