MT Smack Talking

Msyndor,
Hey if you are a decent guy here now, sorry. I was going from what I read in that thread at MS.net. I didn't say you claimed a 13, just pointed out that you were critical of times people were posting here without actually running a time yourself. It'd be like me badmouthing an ultimate fighter as a pansy for losing a fight, having never actually fought myself.
Yes I'm wrong on pricing. I revise that to 15-30K.
My post and criticism of you was in response to your postings in this thread and the other at MS. You said that stuff. I didn't pull those quotes out of the air. You were critical of DIY'ers pride and their accomplishments without having much to be proud of yourself. That's elitist to me. I'd be critical of someone coming in here from a Ferrari forum criticizing turbo Miata's too. "Gee I bought a 360 Modena and these a-holes here are talking up their shitboxes." See, elitist. Just an exageration to demonstrate my point.
As far as bolt ons not adding up to much money, it looks like most of the people making decent power with MSM's are doing full replacement kits. Not any less money than what I spent putting a full kit into my car but with a muc more expensive ECU. Way more money than the DIY'ers here that piece together used and home fabbed kits spend.
Like I said. If you aren't just here to stir the pot fine. Sorry. Just took your word as your word. If you've learned different or changed your attitude great. Happy as a clam.
Don't really care. Just had time to kill and felt like popping off.

Ok, as I said on some of the posts I made on MS I was just venting after reading a thread full of bashing. I have gotten better tech support on MS and it is a more relaxed thread but as I also said things got blown way out of proportion. I was irritated when I posted the thread and have felt somewhat out of place here just because of the car I drive even though it's still a turbo miata. I never intended to cause a e-battle between the two forums and i'm sorry I even started the thread in the first place. It's been dropped over there, why don't we just end it here too.

+1,
Seriously though, that site could be great for all I know but from what I saw in that thread, they think we're smart-*** bastards just because our Miatas weren't turbo when we got them. W/e, It's not like there's all that much different between an MSM and a n/a Miata relative to other turbo cars and their n/a brothers. (think EVO vs. Lancer, Neon vs. SRT4, Mazda6 vs. MS6, etc.)
Yeah, the odd newb thinks he's getting picked on when we tell him to put his location in his profile and post a "hey I'm new" thread, but we're setting him up for success, and for the long haul, in doing so. If you can't search and use the already available resources like FAQs and existing threads to find information that's already been put out, then you don't get to be a member very long. It cuts down on having to repeat the same discussions time and time again.
Grammar, that's a pet peeve of mine too, I must admit, but unless English is your second language you have no excuse. Your car does not have breaks, "they're" is a contraction, your computer has a shift key and a period key, use them. If I pointed out all of the errors I come across people would get tired of it quick though, so I don't. Personally, I'm embarrassed when I realize I've misspelled something and I'll go back and edit it, hell I've posted coherent threads and replies drunk off my *** and no one could tell any different. It's a matter of pride and intelligence, and people judge you based on it whether they themselves realize it or not.
Sorry for the small rant, I feel better.

If you're cool with us, we're cool with you. If someone here fucked with you just because you have an MSM, then I apologize for them (I haven't seen the thread or reply in question, to my knowledge). Usually though, the hazings are a direct result of the attitude of the member. You dig?

Good spelling and grammer on a message board does not make you intelligent. My job hinges greatly on my writting, I do it all day every day. When I'm on a message board, I really just could care less how perfect it is. Doesn't make me less intelligent.

grammer grammar
writting writing
And I have to know, what do you do and who do you work for? You've mentioned this in at least two separate threads in the last little while.

FWIW - My job is to write also, to people much, much higher ranking than me, no less. My new job involves writing in a language I'm currently trying to learn. Writing is going to be part of my job for some time, but I don't plan on typing like a 5th grader on a forum because of it.

since I was targeted directly here I feel I should respond.
I don't know what everyone over at the other site thinks of you guys. In fact back when I had a 93 miata I found the information on this forum very helpful indeed. I don't look down on any man that has the courage to drive a miata and I don't look down on people with slower cars than me either.
I had written a mazdaspeed miata faq for the newbies over there to help answer some questions and I received very good feedback from it on that forum. I then in turn felt it would be good to spread that knowledge to other miata forums should others be interested in that data.
Yes some of the article as fairly generalised but it also had a lot of good information on the MSM that is not available in a single post elsewhere that many people found very helpful. I felt that there may be some people here that might be thinking of picking up an MSM now that they are getting cheaper.
I did not expect that I would be immediately flamed for my good will in putting together this information and sharing it with the miata community. I made a short attempt to defend my position on this forum but I was met with such hostility that I promptly gave up since the members here didn't seemed to be interested in my experience of upgrading a miata or my many years of working on miatas both NA's and NB's or my wealth of car knowledge from graduating from UTI and working as an auto tech at both ford and lexus.
sure everyone over as MS is possibly not as tolerant as me and I don't wish to start any conflicts with anyone on this forum. all I can say is that mazda-speed.com is a very supportive community and while some of our older members still sometimes snipe at each other or call each other out on thing that we know are wrong the overall feeling of the forum is one of tolerance.
miata-turbo.net in being so lax with its moderation seems to allow people to attack people often without cause. i didn't feel that my MS faq had anything in it that could be ridiculed aside from the fact that I was wrong about the cause of the bog (since I had not spent any time on that subject since I went to hydra before I ever experienced it )which was promptly corrected on my forum by another SR member. As it was however I almost immediately was approached by sever members with hostility for apparently no reason at all as if they where 14 year olds responding to that crying for brittany video on youtube. weather that is the opinion of the whole body of this forums members or just a few punks with inferiority complexes like hating that high school kid that has a bimmer and a hot girlfriend while their rollin a huffy and spanking it to scrambled ****.
that all said and since i was not received well on this forum in regard to my good will I don't imagine I will be back any time soon but as it says in my signiture on MS forum anyone that is interested in the mazdaspeed miata and my experience with it is always welcome to PM me on that board and I will do my best to answer your MS based questions.

The comments that have been made thus far with regard to gazelle-eating do posess a certain air of truth about them. Think of MT as something of a fraternal organization- it is vitally important to us that only those possessed of a certain agreeable disposition are permitted to remain. By surviving the gauntlet, and fighting fire with fire (so to speak) one demonstrates a certain level of intellectual complexity that we find most palatable to be around. Or put another way, it weeds out the whiners. To paraphrase Ian Faith, we prefer to be more selective in our appeal.
What's the alternative? I'm being totally serious here. If we're too warm-and-friendly, then we attract the wine & cheese crowd and the forum loses credibility as a haven for serious DIY power enthusiasts. If we censor everything that someone objects to, then we become a hangout for thin-skinned pussies and whiners. It's a tough balance, and, speaking only for myself, I'm always open to constructive observations on how we're doing. Just don't think you can change what MT is "about".

However good or bad the MS web board and its members might be they've got a horses *** for a moderator. As an example someone there goes against the company line and posts:
"If someone put a gun to my head and made me choose between mazda-speed.com (censorship) and miataturbo.net (Darwinism), I'd choose MT, hands-down."
He's telling it like it is, has presented a useful insight, and isn't bashing anyone. The horses *** moderator responds:
"Let me know anytime you want your membership here shut off, I'll be glad to help."
Which is basically saying, if you don't agree with us **** off. My experience is that generates a chilling effect on useful debate and the best and smartest posters leave, mostly without fanfare or fair well.
But it doesn't end there. The poster, sticking to his principals calls him on it and writes:
"I'll do it right now and never come back ... if you promise not to delete or edit the post. Deal?"
And proving once and for all he's got no *****, the horses *** replys:
"Doesn't work that way, this isn't Miataturbo.trashmouths"
There is a place for moderating, but ending debate on a technical forum isn't one of them.

I would like a link to said thread where the msm faq's by mprhead5 got flamed! I wanna see if he is right or just overly sensitive. As we all know things were getting a little over the top for a few months. We all had our weinies slapped and it will be a better board for it. Not PC and uptight but toned down just a touch.

Ok. Thread found and it's been cleaned up. Nice job. Maybe mprhead5 will visit again. Maybe he has some knowledge that would be helpful around here. MSM's aren't much different than our cars they just had a head start. Pretty much the same parts work the same way and they definetly need modification to make any real power.
To take liberty with a MarkP quote. The answer as always is MSM's need more boost!
