I think the last 2-years were somewhat of a genesis for turbo engineering for us. We went from log manifolds and the likes of the Greddy kit to what is essentially quality on par with AMS or Full Race with ABSURDflow and ARTech. They may not have the engineering side or the waterjet and CAD equipment to compete with AMS or FullRace, but they have the fab skill and the commitment to the the kind of driving that Savington, myself, and a few others that surpassed the tech of the last turbo miata generation.

 

and we are still worlds behind what they do in the diy honda community.

 

And their vendor section is now hidden? I'd rather see it kept visible but locked to new threads.

Yes. We are too cheap and too few to get that kind of product developement. We also don't like running our intercoolers mounted to a cow catcher in front of the car and a powerband 1000 rpms wide.

What's amazing about the Honda crowd is they are huge and have so many options yet other than S2000's I've never seen an FI Honda at a track day. Drags, but not the track. Guess they haven't figured out turning can be fun too.

 

I heard somethings about their business from local guys so I went another route for my first turbo setup.

 

Maybe the paperwork is sitting on top of the notes on what they were supposed to do with jacob300zx car?

The turbo Miata world isn't much further along than it was 10 years ago. The most forward movement is in ECU alternatives and tuning, and you can't really say BEGI has been at the forefront of that movement.

Exhaust manifold development is a new world for us as of 1-year ago.

 

Since i live 30 minutes away my problems were scarce. It DID take forever to get my kit done, they said a month, and it was about 3 months, but what ever, thats fine. I know they're popular and have way more customers than just me. The only thing that actually got on my nerves, is they forgot to charge me tax, I paid for my kit up front (thinking i paid in full), and their thing for the month was free shipping. I went to pick up my kit, and they asked me if i had payed tax, i said i thought i did already. So whoever was there called stephanie, she was out. I offered to pay tax, they said don't worry about it. A week later, there was about 180 dollars i couldn't figure out where it went.... they charged me tax.... I didn't say anything, because i guess i actually did owe it. I would have rather had it taken out on my terms though.

EDIT: Knowing all of this, i would have still bought my turbo kit there, there is only one engineering flaw i have noticed so far. I had great help from tim when i failed to mention i had a 99 SB.

 

Waiting 3 months when given a 1 month estimate isn't "fine."

It's people that keep saying "that's fine" that allows them to keep getting away with all the screw ups.

I've personally been to there shop a few times. I've seen firsthand their work and have also purchased my intake kit from them. The intake kit is great, absolutely love it. When I got it though there were a few clamps that didn't fit. It irritated me but not enough to do anything about it.
As for seeing their shop and everything I was a bit surprised. There was literally crap everywhere. In the office, out in the shop, even behind the shop. It definately wasn't what I was expecting. I saw one gentlemen working on a rollbar for some NA. It took him all morning and part of the afternoon to get 1 bar cut and fitting well but no welding it on. I was blown away it took that long.
Everyone was extremely nice though. And they had a few cats that were really frindly inside too.
I was impressed with the pieces that they made that I saw but could definately see how things get delayed and possibly lost. I'd still do business with them but I'd never let them do any sort of install on my car.

You think thats long i ordered my kit in october, didnt get everything until march, april. But she did make up for it. All in all i think it was worth the wait but still if it was it bit shorter it could have been nicer.

I do remember many contentions with the job you asked us to do. Some were schedules that seemed to come form the ether, and some were for requested parts that do not function well.

Surge does not come from a crappy job. It comes from a bad valve, such as the stock item or a Forge valve.

I am the boss at BEGi, or so it says on the paperwork, but I do not remember anyone having such a lengthy complaint about a vehicle I thought ran well and was configured at a modest cost.

Can you remember the cost per HP? I fail to remember the stock power figure. Typically the MSM is in the 140 rwhp range. Fifty nine hp is typically a $3000 job.

Did you ever discuss this with me? Did we compare notes on invoices with regard to what you think you requested and what we provided?

With all due respect to what may be a valid complaint of getting screwed by BEGi, I would suggest you are a member of a very small group. Other than schedules, I simply do not allow that to happen in my business. Forgive me if I missed one, and let's compare notes.

Sorry, dude. If I didn't do it, someone else would have. Best advice I can give you is to never buy anything from them again - that's what I did. I dealt with their stupid bullshit, and I had a couple of friends who dealt with their stupid bullshit, and now I'm done and clear and there isn't a single BEGi part on my car and I'm proud to say that.

 

ETDracing and racingmazda were making tubular manifolds that worked well 5+ years ago.
