**SOLD** Murray Riding Mower Lawnmower

Here's a link to my current ad. A dude, very cool, just came and picked up this mower for my asking price. As you can see, the ad is detailed enough that anybody should be able to make a sight-unseen decision to purchase or not. It's a great price, the seller is obviously an English-Primary-Language person who isn't fucking around... basically I answer all 10 most-commonly-asked CL responses, and DUMB IT DOWN so that even the elementary-school educated coon-asses around here shouldn't be able to come up with some bullshit way to waste my time through email... but still I get these kinds of responses:

Is this still available and in what condition??

Doyoustillhavethisitem.

This rider lawnmower is a late '90's rear-engine rider, 30" blade, 12hp motor, yes.?

Would it fit in the back of my explorer with the seats down?

Where are you located?

How old is this mower? does it have any rust.

What brand is this mower?

Why are you saleing this item.

I am not frum nigeria is this still avaleable

Trade for fishing gear? I have pots and nets for everything.

Why does the seat look crooked?

How many miles on this mower?

I am not shitting you, these are just the good ones, or ones I have repeats of. I got about 30 emails in 48hours, 2 guys who said they were "In the car and on the way" who never showed and haven't returned my calls, and about a dozen people who said "I'll take it, but not until Friday, can you hold it?"

WHAT IN THE NAME OF SWEET BABY JESUS IN A TUXEDO SHIRT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!

18psi 09-17-2012 04:14 PM

I'm more surprised that you are in shock over this than anything else.

LOL

I just sold a 2000 Honda Accord for my brother in law a few weeks ago. At $2500 asking, my email box damn near shut down Yahoo mail lolol. Some of them I didn't even know wtf they were asking me....

The "I am not a nigerian prince" one takes the cake though:laugh:

viperormiata 09-17-2012 04:16 PM

still for sale?

pusha 09-17-2012 04:20 PM

I'm surprised no one offered to trade you an X-Box.

y8s 09-17-2012 04:51 PM

turns out even stupid people can get access to the internutz.

Joe Perez 09-17-2012 05:22 PM

I'm interested in buying this mower, but I don't own a car. Can you deliver it to my house? I'm located in northen Wisconsin. Also, both of my arms had to be amputated after I was in a serious fire last year, so I can't operate the mower myself. Would you be willing to come to my house every other weekend and mow the lawn for me? I don't have any money, but I can give you a large and extremely rare collection of beanie-babies in return.

PS: I am not from Nigeria.

I just got this response... this is his first response, not a reply to my email. Every CL ad I put out lately has this exact response within the theme:

the condition of the item and i will love to make an instant purchase.
I will be mailing (overnight) a certified check from my account to
cover the cost, while you hold item on my behalf, am willing to give
an extra $40 for you to hold item till you receive payment. Once you
have payment, I will have my handler come for pickup at your place as
soon as check clears your bank. I will be needing the following
information to issue out the payment . .

1.Name to be on the check
2.Home Address
3.Telephone

** Please note that the payment will be mailed overnight via the
courier to your address and its bound to delivered within 2 to 3 days.
I have taken a closer look at the item and am very satisfied i really
need this and would appreciates that you help hold this for me till
the payment arrives.Furthermore do remove the posting from CRAIGSLIST
as am definitely buying it from you. Hope to hear from you ASAP

Sincerely

James Jatt

pusha 09-17-2012 06:17 PM

send him Slide_Ruler's information

18psi 09-17-2012 06:18 PM

You have GOT to go along with it and post results.

This might get fun.

Troll him back or this thread is useless.

rharris19 09-17-2012 06:20 PM

I get that a lot as well. I have always wanted to put something up for sale just to see how it all works with those guys.

The guys over at 419eater.com have some interesting scambaiting stories.

karter74 09-17-2012 06:54 PM

I have experienced all of this. While Craigslist is a decent enough place to browse for things, the amount of idiots out there is just astonishing.

I really want to be thankful for all the advances in modern medicine, but seriously, we really need to let natural selection weed out the herd a little more.

<rant> If people want to drive without seatbelts, let them!!! If they're too stupid to help themselves in the name of safety, who are we to force them??</rant>

Joe Perez 09-17-2012 06:56 PM

Indeed.

Agree to his terms, and require that the $40 be sent via PayPal while you await the receipt of the forged check. Give him a bogus address to mail the check to- you won't be needing it. Don't make up a false address, just pick some address at random out of the phone book- this way it won't immediately be returned by the delivery service.

Tell the scammer that the check arrived and cleared, and that they can come pick up the mower. In the mean time, generate a forged email claiming to be from your bank's fraud department, informing you that the check you "deposited" was bogus, and threatening you with a fraud charge.

When the "handler" asks where to pick up the mower, give him the address of a location on-base which is mappable via google maps but which would be unreachable by an unescorted civilian. Eg: one must pass through a manned checkpoint to reach it.

After the buyer complains that the address you gave him is inaccessable, apologize profusely and claim that there was some mixup at the checkpoint, and that you'll make sure he has the proper credentials to get in.

After he complains the second time (presupposing he's not in the brig yet), reveal the fraud letter from the bank, and threaten him with physical violence. This will seem more credible than the average e-thugging, given his experiances on the base.

Etc.

jacob300zx 09-17-2012 10:08 PM

I always send them the name and address of the Chief of Police to make the check out to :)

I will have never had more dealings with idiots than when I post a craigslist add. I posted a WTB add for old dirt bikes a couple of months ago and posted sample pictures hoping some divorced wife would call me about her ex's dirt bike. I had about 15 people call me about buying my dirt bike WTF! The add said Wanted To Buy in the title and body.

I had one kid about 8 years old that called me twice in a row, I finally got pissed and said, "look quit bothering me kid I have no dirt bikes for sale." and hung up. The kids Dad called back and said he was trying to teach his son how to negotiate...I told him to teach him how the read first as it was a wtb add lol.

Probably because you're the one trying to scam him. You piece of shit.

I'll take that as a no. :). Good luck

I was trying to buy an ipod on CL for a while there. I had 4 different people who I arranged meetings with to buy a unit from and they always came up with an excuse not to sell it. I get "I have to work late tonight" a lot, I guess I dont understand what's the point of putting things for sale then being completely unwilling to actually sell said item. One listed one at $90, then tried to increase the price on me because he didn't look up what it was worth

mgeoffriau 09-18-2012 09:48 AM

Yesterday evening, not Craigslist but Armslist. Guy listed an $80 Rossi .22 revolver plus a couple bricks of .22 ammo. Figured it was worth $80. Agreed on time and place to meet. I arrived on time. Waited 30 minutes, no show, guy won't respond to calls, texts, or emails. I went home. 3 hours later, I ignored his phone call.
