My Mazda Ute
Hi all i thought i would post up a pic of my ute i know its not a Miata but one day soon it will have the heart of one lol
Ok its nothing special compared to some your rides here but its my baby, I built this from a wreak ground up and it was all done by me no shop help, it has a full chassie which is very nice. Its pretty much stock as in engine which is a 2litre Ma 626 motor and 5 speed running a 2 1/2 inch exhaust, i have lowered it 6 inches, custom bucket seats (came with Bench) running Autometer gauges, sports steering wheel, pioneer stereo, and keyless entry as its an old (not that old) pic it now has 14x7 simmon three piece rims and 185x50 tryes, as i said before all the body work and Mech were done by me.
And now i want to give it another heart transplant and try and squeeze the 1.6 Miata Engine and gear box into to her, and if that work out ok the turbo will be next on the to do list.
I know it may not be your cuppa tea but i do hope you like it.
Cheers

That's pretty cool. You know you could probably boost that 626 engine up to 10ish psi. If I'm not mistaken...and I know someone here will correct me if I am...but I think that 2.0L is the same used in the MazdaSpeed Protege/MPS. You'll get more headroom with a BP, but just a thought.
Also, why are Australians so big on utes? They never caught on too big here (all I can think of is the El Camino and Ranchero) but even Top Gear Australia was doing reviews of utes. I'm guessing instead of pick ups being the best selling vehicles (they seem to be here in the US), utes are?

i can tell you this its not for tax reasons like ute down here and rego is alot dearer as they are classed as a commercial vehicle so higher rate, as we a big country they are handy for moving gear around and great for the trady.
As for motors yea i could play with the 2litre put a big turbo on it,but i got this 1.6 cheap and i wanted to learn more about fuel injection on a budget and i thought this would be a good way of doing it, as this ute is pretty light i can nearly lift the rear end off the ground by myself, so if i get it sorted it should be a fun car to drive (like a gokart lol).
as for socca mum's they mainly drive station wagons lol they have more kids and junk to carry lol.
I am glad you guys like it, i will post more pic of the engine swap when i get started, there still alot of more research to do and a few parts to get and one of the head ach i have is i to move the shifter 4 inches forward so it will fit in the correct position.
Cheers
