there are eleventy billion motors that "can" fit and "can" work and "can" be great in a miata.
the trick is finding one cheap enough, compatible enough, light enough, and worthwhile enough to do. Also to get it to play nice with the rest of the drivetrain, or install the drivetrain it came with, or mix-n-match, or or or or.......

It's also aluminum, direct injection, and VVT. Since it's a base truck engine it should be a cheap junkyard buy in another 2 years.
