Twincharging is cool. A big turbo and a form of anti-lag which doesn't make you replace a "melted" turbo every few races ...

I would have a Delta S4 already if those weren't that expensive nowadays ...

 

Its a good idea, but when you follow through the math you don't get a mechanically driven turbo charger.

In fact its already been done. 1912 by the packer car company they used a ring an pinion setup. Basically imagine open differential. But instead of the driveshaft powering the two wheels. Whichever wheel was faster spun the driveshaft. In this case the driveshaft is the cetner shaft

I don't see why all these people think turbo cars are so impossible to drive.

No one ever says, "why not run an appropriately sized turbo which makes torque at the same spot as the supercharger?"

lol guys... i know what twin-charging is and all (even thought about putting a rear-mount turbo on a hotside M45 at one time). But it was the first post that made me laugh.

I like the idea behind twin charging but to do it on a miata I think would need way to much work for how I see it working nicely.

First I would rather mount the supercharger on the cold side with a sheetmetal intake mount under or next to the supercharger. Then run a large T4 turbo with a equal lenght manifold. Then either run both turbo and super into the same intercooler(dual inputs-single output) or run a Y-pipe off the intake manifold with the super charger been non-intercooled and the turbo been normally incoolered.

Now that require a crap load of work and I know there would still be hella problem to still solve.

Ahhhh the beauty of the Group-B days. Such a shame that level of participation isn't in the current WRC lineup. My personal favorite was teh Ford RS200 even if it did use a lot of crap from the Sierra bin.

Also, VW employs twin charging in it's TFSI 1.4 engine with great results and fuel economy,
