Everyone does.
I wish they would build high speed rails from here to vegas. Not slow trains, but the 170+ mph bastards. I'd ride that. Be able to walk around. Get sloshed. Etc.
Partly is the Union fault for the high over head they have. I am surprised that Chrysler is still around though.
They rather push for a Railway system between Los Angeles and Las Vegas (Harry reid/ Nancy Pelosi) in the stimulus pork bill. This may give jobs to lots of workers but in the end is a waste of time and money. Las Vegas used to have Amtrak train systems all setup up but it got scrapped because no one would use it. Hence big fail and wasteful spending.
Just like investing more into dying car companies. I don't feel bad for those car companies, I feel bad for the workers and retirees with pensions.

Since I am sick of reading all the "I know so much about the government" threads and a handful of you geniuses seem to know just exactly how to fix this economy...here it is in a nutshell. This country is a democracy, which means that the elected gets there due to majority vote. The majority of this country is a bunch of brainwashed morons who don't understand what they are voting for. There are people, like guys on here who tell what the issues are, and seem to understand how to fix things...but in reality, it's all a popularity contest. The people (and many educated members on this forum) that understand what they are voting for don't make a dent in the percentage of people that matter. The voting system is nothing more than American Idol. "That guy can dance around and sing gayer than the other guy, let's vote for him." There ya go, there is the future of America. There should be a test that you are required to take before you are allowed to cast your ballot. Nothing against Barrack Obama or any of his running mates, I just feel that people should have a better reason of why they voted instead of replying with, "because we need change."
BTW, I did get a chuckle out of that Urkel pic...

We use the democratic system(voting) to elect our officials. However, we are a Republic since we have a constitution and our officials abide by the laws set in it. Under a democracy, the elected officials represent the majority and the majority has absolute power over the minority or individuals no matter their rights.(think of the Puritans of Colonial America) There is a big difference in the two government ideologies.
Remember The Pledge of Allegiance. " and to the Republic for which it stands..."

+1 on everything except that we are a democracy.

Fortunately, I don't see this **** happening. Although a free market should dictate the allocation of resources, gas still climbs to prices high enough to warrant wars. Because we are willing to kill over gasoline before changing our demand, perhaps we should concentrate on getting ourselves out of the same bullshit we were in.
Besides, I can't imagine a welcoming hug from the behemoth that the oil industry now is, as alternative energy begins flooding the market.
(my speculation only)
Besides, I can't imagine a welcoming hug from the behemoth that the oil industry now is, as alternative energy begins flooding the market.
(my speculation only)
1) High gas prices are caused by:
a) rapidly increasing demand and slowly increasing supply
b) OPEC and the other oil producers playing with supply when demand goes down. Be aware that there are definite limits to how much benefit OPEC can get from this manipulation. If they restrict supply too much, price per barrel will go up but this will cause overall consumption to drop, making them worse off than if they hadn't acted.
c) in other words, the oil companies are subject to all the same supply, demand and production capacity constraints as any other company. The only real notable difference is that their ability to produce oil is somewhat inelastic. They can't just open up another oil factory if demand doubles. They need to spend years searching for new supplies and then years slowly extracting it.
2) Global warming is a made up problem. It plain doesn't exist. This has been a political agenda topped with a science flavored sauce since day one. Al Gore isn't a scientist and neither is Barack Obama. Every "solution" to the "problem" has been massive, destructive levels of socialism in return for barely measurable gains (like the .1C reduction in ocean temperatures in the next 100 years that was promised by Kyoto).
3) The environmental bullshit I'm talking about has nothing to do with the other two issues. It has to do with stuff like the clean air and clean water acts. It has to do with environmental impact statements and EPA permits. Look up the Rapanos case. This is a guy who was prosecuted under a law against polluting interstate waterways because he leveled an empty field to build a shopping mall. The government claimed that putting sand down to fill in the ruts and dips in the property was the same as dumping sludge into a river. They claim that he should have spent several million dollars getting a permit from them first. He spent years in court fighting this bullshit to keep his property and stay out of prison (he won). Millions of taxpayer dollars being wasted.
This is the sort of thing we need to do away with. Free up American entrepreneurs to provide goods and services without having to ask permission and pay a fee for every small detail.

BarrigaNA- I think you might be referring to the Alfa Romeo MiTo.

Well, I know Chrysler is in negotiations with Fiat. That wasn't what I was referring to. You said it may bring more European cars here in the US. That isn't going to happen. It will be a rehash of Mercedes/Chrysler. Fiat sees a way of gaining US market share and having a presence without having to meet US restrictions in order to import their own cars. Plus you may see a Chrysler/Alfa Romeo dealership merger. That is an easy way to bring the brand to already existing dealerships. I forgot that Fiat owned Alfa. So if Alfa Romeo returns then there is another brand from Fiat along with Ferrari and Maserati, but I don't think Fiat will come back as their own brand.

Anyways looks as if the Fiat/Chrystler thing went through.
Also many European standards are higher than American crash standards. Not sure why they can't just combine the two so that importation is easier and the same throughout the world.
