Which is besides the fact that just because alcohol becomes a target for crimes.
Robbing a bank if you've drank enough alcohol to make it seem like a good idea would not be very high on the list of accomplish able tasks. Shooting sprees are not a result of alcohol, they are a result of someone who doesn't know how to deal with stress/emotions.
Stating it that way, cigarettes are the lesser of the evils. The whole bit about pot being more cancerous. The reason why i state it as a unknown is because you can't currently compare paper filtered cigarettes and rolled marijuana. However, burned plant material and smoke is burned plant material and smoke. You are a damned fool if you think your lungs are healthier than a cigarette smoker.
Last I checked not everyone drinks to get absolutely hammered drunk, pissing in the streets. People seem to understand moderation when it comes to alcohol.
When was the last time you heard of someone smoking pot but not looking to get high?

Alright shame I missed this earlier (I love political threads!),
You know, scratch that. I don't even know where to begin. Here's one I can do. Jim(@fsu), you've got to be kidding me. Lets assume people generally act in self interest, especially in the United States, its the way of our culture. Now lets also assume petroleum is a finite resource. Considering it is billions of years of stored, compressed organic material with billions of years of stored energy within. Since it can run out, and there is a ridiculous amount of it, and they say we have/will very soon reach peak oil (Peak oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), we have essentially rereleased billions of years of energy within about 100 years. If you think this will not have any effect on our earth, you hopping mad.
p.s. The idea to move away from fossil fuels is not only an environmental one. It is also both a national security and economic issue.
To claim that legislation caused the banks to fail is crazy. Just because you can hide your bad assets doesn't mean they don't exist, and aren't currently drying up all of your credit reserves. They were bad assets. Your explanation of the crisis was a hyper simplified, hyper biased conservative view. While those factors may have had an impact, there were things (like influx of massive amounts of capital in the form of investment from developing economies into our own economy/new investment tools; MBSs, CDOs/Bad data for rating loans/Stupid low Fed Rates) that had a more important role in the shutdown of our system. Anyways, I have just read a study on the Sarbanes Oxley act generally improving investor confidence.
-drop all the environmental bullshit. Drop it now. It's expensive and wasteful. It's a luxury we can't afford. Global warming is bullshit and everyone knows it. Cheap energy is a huge economic stimulus. Just move out of the way and let the free market supply it.

Dude, I've gotten to the point I spend far less time on message boards. I mostly frequent car boards, but all of them have thread after thread of "the sky is falling" "obama is the boogey man" threads. I figured it would die down after all the butt hurt republicans got over it. But I guess not. I really don't recall the democrats bitching this much when they lost.
