A visible six-pack by the end of July, 2012. I have a bet going with the missus and if I don't deliver the beachbody, I have to pony up for a pre-set amount of jewelry. Considering my wedding band cost $150, her engagement ring cost $475 and the watch I am wearing right now cost $40, I do not want to spend money on jewelry.

I will never be able to get back to the condition I was in when I was fighting due to time constraints (cooked almost every meal myself and probably put in an easy 10 hours a week of training). Considering I had an 8-pack back then, I figure I only need to lose about 15 pounds to reach my goal.

We are also doing a mini marathon in September and I'm just trying to get back to some level of fitness. I went from super fit to super sedentary. Trying to find that golden mean.

Cut grains, sugars, and processed vegetable oils. Done.

aha well then this story should inspire:

http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/06/...to-6-pack-abs/

seriously though it'll work like this:

no refined carbs (ie no beige food or lighter unless it's a vegetable)
you should already not be eating trans fats
and grass fed cow products whenever possible if you eat cow
low carb/no sugar protein supplements daily. you may need like 50 more grams per day to stay at about 1 gram per pound of body weight if you want to increase muscle mass and burn more calories.

then go do massive weight lifting that uses your whole body
sprint days twice a week (not on weight days)
and lots of core work
you can skip the arms workouts because they are a waste of time. just do another few sets of dips or pullups instead.

and maybe a 30 minute walk with your wife every day at a brisk pace.

like a boss?

Without exageration, I used to be ripped like a shorter version of Jesus, so I would like to think I have some idea of how to get in good shape and eat clean. For example, I basically ate a "Paleo style" diet before I think I'd ever heard anyone use that term. I used to weigh-in the day of the fight (unlike MMA where you might cut a bunch of water weight, weigh-in the day before and have a chance to re-hydrate) and I fought at a weight that is 10lbs lighter than my current goal. i.e. about 25 pounds lighter than my current weight and I'm thinner than Braineack's "before" picture.

However, I do think I will benefit from some alternative perspectives because I am dealing with much greater time constraints. I'll check out the nerdfitness link later.

So who wants to see pics of me in my fighting shape?

eh... online tracking is only helpful if you find it helpful, otherwise it's one more thing to do. and it looks like you've already got plenty of experience.

chances are you've probably still got a lot of muscle base and it'll be easier for you to get back to "fighting weight".

sure, show the pictures. we're not gay.

Re-reading some of this thread, it occurred to me it was either somewhat in poor taste (last post) or came across as boastful.

I did want to say:

A) Kudos to y8s and Braineack for their success so far. That is significant.

B) Thanks for the links to fatsecret.com which allowed me to do my initial calorie tracking and to nerdfitness.com which gave me more insight in to the "Paeleo diet for dummies" and gave me a different outlook on weight as a measure of results. Specifically, when I was fighting, weight was a critical measure. I had to hit a target in order to compete. Now, I don't care what the scale says, as long as I have the desired results in terms of fitness (and, as a result, appearance). I've ordered a set of calipers and a tape measure to combine with the scale and photos to track my progress.

i've got those calipers and tape. i also use my scale's body fat percent calculator with a grain of salt. basically when I can stop grabbing fistfuls of flab, I'll be happy.

Sales rep just show up with 2 boxes of donuts. I'm laughing at the fat people trying to convince the skinny people that it's really okay to eat donuts.

it is.

I'm offically down to 172 (today) from 183 recorded on 01/01/12.

I've had a few donuts in this time span. My gut has gone from 39" to 36.5"

Case in point: the fatties are already going back for second helpings. Fat people can claim that donuts are an okay once-in-a-while indulgence, but for them, all those once-in-a-while indulgences add up.

All in moderation? I like to diversify my donut portfolio and take a quarter of four different donuts.

Or, said another way, it's okay for a relatively fit person to have a donut once in a while. It's less okay for an overweight person to have one once in a while and less okay for them to have several multiple times every week.

Sadly, as the skinniest guy in the room (by a large margin), I had to turn down a whole platter of delicious chocolate muffins and assorted pastries the other day. I am still regretting not having even one...
