I plan on doin pie cuts and saw this when looking, not too bad of a price if anyone was looking for one.

I have that one, got it at garage sale for 20 with 10 extra discs. It works, I would get better discs though, the HF ones deflect quite a bit versus the DeWalts I used before.

 

I'm afraid of cheap / chinese equipment which can kill you if it ***** up.

 

You'd have to live in a cave to avoid it all.

 

I bet more people die from toothbrush/qtip accidents than cut off saws failing.

I have one of these (or close enough) and it's been doing my dirty work for years. loud as f*ck though.

 

The only thing I would worry about is the disk being craked and exploding when the machine is turned on. One way to check for a cracked disk is to hang it on a string and tap it. It should have a 'ring' to it. If it's cracked, it won't. Or, you can stand perpendicular to the machine while you start it, which is what I always do. I wouldn't be worried about the machine itself breaking.

 

Isn't that what the guard is for?

This looks similar to my craftsman chop saw that I've used for years too. I'd be impossible to do most of the things I've built without it.

Actually, I use this and a dremel with the standard rotary cutoff wheel for 98% of my cut joints.

 

I got a makita 14" chopsaw at a local estate sale for $65. The clamp is a bit stripped but it works awesome. Doing pie-cuts with a sawzall sucks ***. been there done that.

it's not the saw that can kill you, it's the cheap blades that shatter at 10k rpm. That's why you buy the $5 HF face shield.

 

What chop saw spins to 10k? Damn.

 

Sure it is but I still stand to the side when starting the machine. It's just the way I was taught back in HS. We had 3 phase grinders and you didn't want to be standing infront of one of them when a wheel broke. Just a safe practice especially if your chop saw isn't permenantly mounted to a bench and it could have been droped or something.

 

Man, if you can't feel your saw moving on you then you probably already have hooks instead of hands.

 

The truth comes out regarding why he has several thousand dollars in turbo parts sitting in an undisclosed hotel room somewhere in the midwest.

 

definately a good tool,to have ready.
i started with a sawzall,when i made my intercooler pipes and exhaust.
after the cuts would vome out like ****,i switched to a hacksaw for its deadly precision and to reduce time..lol..

im going to buy 1 of these asap,even if i dont use it for a while.

 

Thats a dope saw for the money. Everyone should have one.
