Pro tip for all you non-Colorado guys who may be checking out the race: be prepared for any weather event, from 90*+ heat to hail to snow. It snowed on the mountain yesterday

Fun, will probably be driving up it next week sometime. Not out there for the event though.

Sure would love to see this tackle the mountain though...

My wife will kill me if I meet up to talk cars/shop while on vacation .

Just out there for some R&R at a families rental condo in Copper Mountain.

How ironic would it be if rain made the pavement slower than the tacky dirt?

That would not surprise me a bit. IIRC the Unlimited cars go up early, before the weather usually hits the fan around 3pm, so I figure the record will fall again if it stays dry and the cars don't break.

Small MTnet gathering is small. Crowded canyon roads driven, beers consumed, roll races undertaken. Hope you and Brian didn't get cooked up there on the mountain today, Nate

Wooot! So I just got home.. 2am now. I work at 7, but IDGAF. Saturday was great Matthew, I had a blast man! I swear if i didn't have a passenger it would have been a better race. I've gotta get that video up for some others to enjoy, tomorrow.

Now.. Matthew, you have to ******* go watch pikes peak next year. Sitting on the side of that mountain was the best 10 hours I've had in forever. I've never seen people go so ***** to the wall in an open canyon. There were 3 people (that I know of) life lighted out, which sucked - but that gives you an idea of how insane these people were driving. I personally saw 2 wrecks, and there were 10+ if you include the 3 bikes that went down. Never in my life have i seen such insanity, to anyone wondering if its worth taking the trip to pikes peak, then YES it is.

On a side note the trip ended up to about 700 miles. Thats a pretty good chug in a modified miata, at least for me it is .

Oh and here's a video of me getting walked on by matthew. I didn't realize until later my car was only making 10psi here, as well as the whole trip. Uhmm, i also had a passanger, 50lbs of **** in my trunk, and i had a tummy ache, and ummm.. i can't think of anymore excuses. JK matt, your car runs very nice.

Props for tossing up that video haha

Glad you guys had a good time up there on the mountain. I read that the weather got shitty and the finish line had to be moved down to Glen Cove. Did you get caught in any of that?

We actually didn't get trapped in, although you were correct in that you COULD get trapped in if you parked up on the actual road. We parked just before the pits which was free to come and go if you wanted. We actually ended up staying until they finished all the cars at 7 or so (****, maybe later?), because it was so damn entertaining I just couldn't bring myself to leave early.

And yeah, we caught the bad weather and stayed till the end. Me and Brian hiked about 6 miles up and were in the alpines near where that Evo wrecked, then hiked down when the weather started showing signs of shittyness so I didn't make it to the top . Next year I will hike to the peak(weather permitting). The rain actually made it very interesting, we posted up on a good turn and watched all the guys dorifto by. The time attack class was amazing, the diesel truck that made 4,000 ftlbs of torque was insane to watch it skate through the turns.

I will post up some pics from the event later. I'm not exaggerating when I say this. I've been to countless drag racing events, watched track days with full blown race cars, been to a few drift events, etc. As far as spectating goes, NOTHING else automotive even comes close to comparing to the excitement of witnessing these cars/bikes/quads/etc go flat out through one of the most treacherous canyons in the US. I would compare it to what I imagine watching a rally race would be like. You pick where you want to stand, and hopefully you made a good decision or a car could be coming at you out of control. I saw people standing on the outside of some of the gnarliest apex's, just asking for a car to slide into them and end their lives. So damn cool.

I'm sure I'll see you next year . quite possibly sooner though, because now I have to drive that road in my car, or at least on my bike.
