Radiators and Radiators - When it leaks...
A couple of weeks ago while on my way back home from meeting Tom at the dyno with a new customers' car, I notice that my coolant temp is higher than usual. I may see 210F in stop and go traffic, but on the freeway, it stabilizes at 195F or so.
So, in my usual over-reacting way, I swap out my PWR 37mm rad and sell it to new Miata guy with a JRSC. At the same time, I order a new Koyo 55mm from Ebay.
So while my car is on the Rhino Ramp, the buyer comes by to pick up his new PWR and we shoot the **** for a while. A couple more days go buy and no rad. So I call up this guy and he says, "Oh, I thought we took that off EBay cuz we didn't have any left?!?" You Mother%$@#&*&
Thanks for the e-mail and return call *******. In the meantime, I'm still getting Paypal invoices from this idiot even as he's paypaling me a refund.
SOOOOO, when I get the refund, I immediately order another from EBay and IMMEDIATELY Paypal the money.
Again, a few days go by with no shipping info. The seller finally e-mails me and says he has no record of me buying anything from him. WTF?
So I check with Paypal and of course I bought and PAID him. The problem is, I got a notice from Paypal (a while ago I suspect) that my CC has expired. It's been so long that I haven't had a CC on file with Paypal that I forgot that if you don't have a valid CC, any Paypal you send is like a check in that it takes DAYS for the recipient to get his money. ****!
That explains why Frank didn't get his money, as well as my my used Victoracers weren't paid for on time.
I FINALLY got a tracking number for my Koyo this morning. I hope I can get it in time for me to take the Miata to the FFS dyno day on Saturday.
In the middle of all this, my beater car, a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis takes **** in front of a Quiznos. I take it to a local auto chain and they quote me $833!!!
It appears that the T-Stat was faulty and overheated the coolant and cracked the plastic end tanks on the radiator.
After some phones calls, I order an ALL ALUMINUM rad for the Merc for $150 delivered and the rest of the parts for $250 TOTAL. It took me 2 hours to replace the T- stat, hoses, and the Rad. Oh and I'm hobbling around on a bum knee cuz I fucked up my knee during Jiu Jitsu AGAIN.
Two hours to replace a rad and T-stat and hoses while on a bad knee and on Vicodin - not too bad. Saving over $500 - priceless.
Now I have to do the Miata.
Moral of the story:
1. Paypal sucks
2. Getting old sucks
3. Vicodin is GOOD!
4. Paypal sucks donkey *****
5. Domestic cars, eh not so good.

I was hoping to get my new radiator and install it for Saturday morning, but UPS tracking shows that it's somewhere between Mesquite Texas and God knows where. :(
On the positive side, my doctor gave me a new script for more Vicodin.

My dentist gave me a bottle of Vicodin Extra strength, my other MD gave me a bottle of Lortab (Vicodin w/o Tylenol), and my primary MD gave me a bottle of regular Vicodin.
At the rate I take these, I'm set for about 3 years.
I usually take one during the day, and another before I take my girls for a walk.
And it seems my radiator has made to Phoenix at last. Looks like I'll be getting it in my hot little hands on Tuesday though. :(

I got so many scripts for narcotics after my bike wreck and related surgeries, it was rediculous. I had to BEG doctors to stop writing prescriptions and offering refills. Most told me I was nuts because I didn't want any more drugs; some would go ahead and hand me the prescription anyway. I did fill a few of the scripts, and had a few, but mostly got the drugs because I was past my insurance deductible and BCBS was picking up the tab.
