I continue to be amazed at how a simple 2 hour train ride takes you from NYC to absolute Hicksville*, NY.
This, for instance, was at the checkout stand at the local supermarket today:
* = Actually, I'm speaking figuratively. The town of Hicksville is in central Long Island, about 55 minutes from Grand Central via the LIRR train. By comparison, this photo was taken in Hudson, about 2 hours north from Penn Station via Amtrak.

Bigger photo, I can't figure out if this is an actual artwork for a pinball or something commissioned by an enthusiast.

Between this, and a conversation had recently with the woman concerning the notion for, for teeneagers in the present day, monogamy is not universally assumed to be the default state in a romantic relationship, I feel really old.
Which means that it's time for more snapshots from my youth:
Unknown soldier in Vietnam, 1965
Bookstore in London ruined by an air raid, 1940
Walter Yeo, one of the first to undergo an advanced plastic surgery and a skin transplant, 1917
Measuring bathing suits – if they were too short, women would be fined, 1920's
Martin Luther King with his son removing a burnt cross from their front yard, 1960
Hotel owner pouring acid in the pool while black people swim in it, ca. 1964
Lifeguard on the coast, 1920's
Artificial legs, UK, ca. 1890
Mom and son watching the mushroom cloud after an atomic test, Las Vegas, 1953

Also, this:
(I assumed, initially, that this was just a made-up statistic. But I fact-checked it and, insofar as Airfleets.net can be considered a reliable authority on Boeing's production serial numbers, it is actually true.)
