After two solid days of calibration and adjustment, this is one of the sexiest screenshots I have ever captured:

And because this is the random pictures thread, robocat:

Your instruments are probably broken.

Can a mechanical engineer explain to me why this AC compressor bracket needs 6 bolts to hold it into the block? And why they needed to put one of them directly between the compressor and the bracket?

The original design probably wasn't castable, so the manufacturing engineer made us redesign it to put the bolt in the middle.

Edit: Thought you meant the one pictured.

Because these damn engines vibrate like hell.

I just spent two days and $12k having them calibrated. This is the first time in years I've trusted what they're telling me.

I can tell you that if you don't install one of the front bolts, engine oil will start leaking out from the seam between the oil pump and the block.

My guess is the thing had issues with stiffness so they kept adding attachment points and mass to shift natural frequencies of the mounting structure to a point where resonance vibration responses wouldn't kill the compressor prematurely.

Three 6.9 kilowatt amplifiers feeding a three-way combiner at 500Mhz. I ain't too upset about one watt difference in what's coming back, especially since the average reflection is about 0.1%.
