This used to scare the absolute crap out of me back in 1993. I would have been 7 years old at the time. Yay for the violent computer game generation… 
Also, this is GM's latest media effort to persuade Americans to buy diesel cars. Diesel cars currently account for only 3% of sales in the US. In the UK, they account for a little over 50%.
People in the UK pay literally twice as much for regular unleaded as those of you in the US do, which probably explains it to some extent.
