Miata.net is run as an LLC. basically his personal company. his only power is his customer base.

he owns the forum (business), he can do whatever he wants (keep his clients [sponsors] {pocketbook} happy).

I love the supporting member thing now! hahaha.

If he keeps having an attitude like that and with all these young guys being lashed out all the time for minor things, well lets just say in due time all good things will come to an end.

Unless he can show that the $$$ he takes in goes right back into the website, then fine, put ads up, collect money, etc....

BUT if that's not the case (which is more likely), then acting like you need more money to run a site when it's just your little cashcow is an a-hole move.

It's akin to those charities with 90% "administrative" fees....sheesh....

What's it cost to run this site per month?

T1 connections start at ~$250-300 month and could go up to well over a thousand bucks a month. Servers ain't cheap, either.

Wonder why the guy doesn't just have the place hosted somewhere else. Maybe he got a good deal on the servers or something.

I've been on loads of forums, and this one is right up there with turbobricks (Volvo hotrod).

Good people, minimum noise, not too much "OMG my timing belt OMG OMG OMG"

Loads of good info, good people, good fun.

I knew that M/net was teh sock when "WTF" got replaced by "***" in the word filter. Really. Maybe they better replace "***" with something, just in case someone interprets the asterisks to mean something naughty.

Looks like gary will be making more money now.Did anyone notice that some members have a "supporting member"under their screen name.
Looks like gary found another way to put another $1 into his own pocket by letting people give donations without actually asking for it.

After re-reading the M.Net FAQ, it seems Gary has violated the following of his own rules and thus should ban himself:

10. Discussions about human or other mammalian anatomy and bodily functions.
13. Posts containing explicit (even if thinly veiled) profanity and/or pornography.

All posts must be civil, friendly, and not contain any profanity or references to profanity.
http://forum.miata.net/vb/faq.php?fa...rules_faq_item

In the 12 years since I've created this web site, there have always been a handful of people who complain no matter what we do or don't do. Set up something new? We get complaints. Take something away? We get complaints. Create alternatives? We get complaints that they aren't the right alternatives. Its kind of like listening to my mother-in-law. I've gotten accustomed to her, and I've gotten accustomed to the complaints.

To the people who have chosen to become supporting members - I thank you for helping out the site.

To the people who have instead chosen to accept the Google ads - I thank you for helping out the site.

To those who are concerned that this will "evolve" into a class system - I assure you, it will not. At least not by me.

To those of you who are using ad blockers - you are violating the terms of service of this web site. As far as I'm concerned, you're stealing. Its bad enough you don't want to support the site, but you also don't want other people supporting the site. It would seem you're doing everything in your power to make this site disappear. You people are beneath contempt. Why don't you try calling your local newspaper, and tell them that you no longer intend to pay for their paper, but you expect them to deliver it to you anyway. In addition, tell them that you demand that they remove all the ads before they drop it off. I'd be curious to know how long it takes them to stop laughing before they hang up on you. As soon as I can figure out a way to determine who is using ad blockers, you'll also be blocked from using the site.

And to those of you who seem to have a hatred of this forum and its policies - you're in a class by yourself. I'm starting to understand how otherwise nice people can get goaded into launching personal attacks. You disgust me. Go away and stop soiling this forum.

This thread is done.

Also, I don't see how using an ad blocker is violating the TOS of M.Net. Maybe his bottom line, but TOS?

That guy makes me sick. A forum is nothing without its users and he is accusing people of stealing something they created.

I can't believe he compares it to a newspaper. What a moron.

at one point last year i was trying to run a marathon in support of cancer victims. I asked him if I could post a link to raise donates for them. He said no that asking for donations was a violation of the rules. And i was like, come on its for cancer patients. And I told him even if i didnt go through witht he marathon the money would still go to help poor victims. He didnt really care.

Hum, isnt he asking for donations now?
