Snazzying up ur home. What to do?
I would like to snazzy up my home a little. I am pretty suck at interior decoration and need to despartanify/deminimalize. I don't even have anything on the walls right now.
So this is what I am thinking about
reseal deck - $150
granite kitchen/baths - $7000
redo master bath - $5000
ditch the stupid metal slatted blinds. get pleated or wooden $5000????
get a sectional couch - $3000???
What would you do to spiffy up your house?

$5000 for blinds? Try just a couple hundred, unless you have a LOT of windows. When my girlfriend and I put blinds in our house, we did 4 ~36 inch windows, one ~18 inch window, and our master bedroom 36" window was a $120 black out shade, since we both work nights. I think the total came to $240.

Pretty sure we bought the 2" express faux wood blinds in white.
What color are your walls? A well coordinated color scheme goes along way to tie in all the rooms. We're a fan of "gobe desert".

I had a set of NT01s in the living room for a couple of weeks. They really tied the room together...
Curly is right, colors and changing how light works in the rooms can do wonders. Blinds are cheap and make a big difference. I'm renting and I've got the same blinds you do. I hate them, but I'm cheap and lazy. Check out roman blinds, the honeycomb looking blinds, or larger wooden slat ones.
A new couch will make a dramatic change, especially if its previously received the same type love as the Miata:

Do something fancy with the walls, and crown molding? Always makes a simple room look a bit more "snazzy". Old shitty carpet? Pull that ---- up and get new better carpet, or hardwood. New counter tops and tile in the kitchen, new cabinets. Redo the bathroom in tile if it's all vinyl.
I'm pretty nifty with interior design thanks to my mom. That's probably not good to admit to, I already drive a Miata and love cats.

Wife is an interior designer, she says the biggest rule of thumb to "generally" follow is natures color patterns (dark floor to light ceiling with mid tones in between)--it usually adds a touch of class to the basic color scheme. Ikea art prints and some mid-high end furniture will go far. There's also a lot of places on line that have plans for DIY furniture that can turn out really well with little know-how if you're in to that sort of thing.

Quality furniture is worth the extra cost. Our cheap couch, while less than 10 years old, looks like crap.
