Veil of Maya usually does a bad *** intro for their albums.

It's all preference, but I get where you're coming from. Just like clean vocalists, there are some people like and some people can't stand. Same with heavy, growly vocals. I love the vocals for Veil of Maya, but hate the vocals for Divine Heresy. It's funny that you mention Slipknot, they can have some pretty heavy vocals too, especially their older stuff.

This is for you, Brain. Repost but very deserving. No growly (minus Shagrath moments)

I'm not feeling that too much.

Honestly, I just want more stuff like this:

Famous Monsters and American Psycho are two of my all-time favorite albums. I mainly listen to punk rock, so fast passed "metal" with punk roots is more my style.

so i dunno things like this:

or

and slipknot has that same vibe, plus their **** is REALLY catchy:

When I want epic-movie montage metal/opera:

I've always been very divided about Kamelot. I think the lead vocalist has a good voice, and they are all competent musicians, and produce music well, but it just doesn't all fit together to me, somehow. It sounds... off.

No Bruce Campbell, no care.

But, that's another example of liking the msuic and absolutely hating the vocalist. Plus it's very unoriginal.

I've always liked this song:

but dont like the rest of their stuff that much. I guess Im a trashy kinda guy.

But I still like old school Marilyn Manson even:

I often build MSes listening to this album. And now ill stream this in it's entirety right now

also, gotta love Pantera, glam rock days to the last.

the w/lyrics thing is funny. obviously there is none on the video, because there are no distinguishable vocals.

I listened to this over the weekend:

lyrics:

Born into the middle class
Yeah, all you had to do was ask
And mom and dad would give you what you needed
And though I didn't know you then
I know you'll probably defend
And take the stand in the life that you'd been cheated
So you adopt a punk rock life
A leather jacket, hair with spikes
And join a band
'Cause you must have a say
And though you helped out with it that time
There's those of us, who keep on
Trying to make a living and not sound like Green Day
Trade rags say you're making it, now you're old
You don't give a ****.
Subconsciously fullfilled prophecy you've become your own nemesis

Mr. Brett, we won't pay that fee to keep you
Livin' in luxury
Some say genius, some say mistake
But you've become what you used to hate

Stupid! Wannabe! Punk Rock Guy!

So now we're in the 90's and punk's not what it used to be
It's gone downhill since 1982
And though I liked most of your bands
And listen to them all I can
It's fucked up that you think it's 'cause of you
You think that you're still part of the scene
Nail painted black, hair dyed dark green
For you this mid life crisis has come on strong
Now punk rock's been accepted
And they've realized it's not just a fad
Please, stay behind that desk where you belong
Punk rock life's been good to you
Now Corporate punk's the thing to do
Obnoxiously, you raised your fee,
You'll see to it we'll all get screwed.

Mr. Brett, we won't pay that fee to keep you
Livin' in luxury
Some say genius, some say mistake
But you've become what you used to hate

Stupid! Wannabe! Punk Rock Old Guy!

Just tell me the truth.
There's no excuse.
Just tell me the truth.

Mr. Brett, we won't pay that fee to keep you
Livin' in luxury
Some say genius, some say mistake
But you've become what you used to hate

Stupid! Wannabe! Punk Rock Record Mogul! **** YOU!!

Mr. Brett was from Bad Religion if you didn't get the reference. Suffice to say, they didnt sign on to Epitaph.

The lyrics are in the video description. I can understand the singer just fine, but that's probably because I listen to this type of music. On the flipside, I can't understand a single thing in the punk videos you post.

It really depends on the style of metal, though. Things like death metal, hardcore, doom metal, black metal, etc...share similar vocal styles. **** like metalcore, deathcore,etc...I have no freakin' clue what they are saying. It's not even guttural or percussive, it's just feminine shrieks mixed with having a sore throat.

Take Veil of Maya as an example: I can understand everything.

Then you have the metalcore stuff like this:

and a bit of this:

EDIT:

Or you can have no singer, just two 8 string guitars are a drummer.

that's awesome. like no one knows who they were. I like you now, bff.

I listen to it very often, it's actually one of the few albums on my playlists on my ipod. it's up there on my list of favorite albums.

the tribute album stunk though, I only like the slipknot song. the Limp Bisquick song is a joke.

Animals As Leaders - "CAFO" Prosthetic Records - YouTube
I would like them so much more with a bass included. Pretty awesome though. To me, vocals are unimportant anyway. If they are there, they are just another instrument, and the lyrics I often ignore. Which may be why I so easily enjoy foreign music I can't understand the lyrics to, because I simply don't care. The vocalist is just another instrument in the band. At least that is one thing I measure a "good vocalist" by, whether or not the vocalist is good enough to blend with the music and sound good when you ignore what they are signing about.

Awesome

My favorite, the acoustic version

Disturbing, but seriously great bass/guitar work.

those years
A gently knocking but no answer, hesitated for a second then turned the ****
and stepped inside

In front of him a well made bed, in it a woman sleeping, he pulled up a chair
So fragile and so helpless, he took her hand and held it and whispered in her
ear

Edward
"My dear Ms. Sinclair, you are my mother and a ***** of evil
How could you leave me there in that old church, why

My first vague memories of Father Dorian and me on my knees
He stole my boyhood early, him and the other priests
While preaching I was dirty and needed to be cleansed

Baptized my young face with soggy semen every evening while tears ran
Alternated with violent whipping in God's name, I was a child of shame.

Dorian, he sodomized my weak and childish body
The cross went inside my ravished rear end and bent me open
Those yellow teeth still haunt my dreams

Caged from daylight inside a cellar, he kept me locked up 'til pleasure he
craved
I know God's light is shining but this molested soul will never see a heaven
that I am certain of

My dear Ms. Sinclair, you are my mother and a ***** of evil
How could you leave me there in that old church, why

Then one night I noticed he'd forgotten to lock the doors and I saw my chance
I sneaked out and ran off, foggy air, morning dark, the grass was wet
I'd been there for so long, not sure of my age, the wicked Father D. may he
burn in hell
You must die oh spiteful bitch, you put me there."

Slowly she opened her eyes and stared at him silent at first
Felt she was squeezing his hand, the wrinkly old hag

Ms. Sinclair
"My dear boy, my dear Edward let me tell you of your past
Please son ease down, sit down and listen to me

I was born where you grew up, daughter of Father Dorian
His line of blood runs deep, deeper than you can possibly imagine

Night after night he robbed me of pride
Pleasing his need, a child of his breed that never could smile
Instead of playing with a dolly I had to play with him
In my mouth I can still taste his salt veiny skin

Barely fertile yet daily raped, his holy seed
Finally my girly womb managed to impregnate
My father, my lover had now made me a mother
As he delivered my baby I wept to God

I left the church right after my baby boy was born
I was replaced by my infant to be my father's toy
That toy was you dear Edward and I'm glad I left you there
Our Father's love for his children can never be compared."

You might like this if you like The Algorithm. I don't like the singer's voice.

Edit: This stuff from them I do like. I seriously wish they would put out an instrumental.
