Default very, very cool porsche

"Singer Vehicle Design rolled out its first prototype, plainly named the "Singer 911," at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance last month. Based on an '80s-era long-wheelbase 911 donor vehicle, the company strips each chassis to its bare shell for "reinvention" into what Singer calls a "celebration of the golden air-cooled era of the world's most important sports car."

Incontestable is its vintage Porsche 911 look. However, the Singer 911 is far from antiquated. The complete reincarnation includes chassis stiffening, new active aerodynamics, and a lightweight integral backbone structure and roll cage to improve torsional rigidity. Most interestingly, nearly all of the steel body panels are replaced by full carbon fiber composite bodywork candy-coated in Singer's exclusive "Racing Orange" paint.

Under the rear decklid is an air-cooled 3.82-liter flat-six sporting six individual throttle bodies. With a GT3 crankshaft and titanium connecting rods, the powerplant spins eagerly to 8,000 RPM. The engine sends 425 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque to a proper Getrag G50 six-speed manual transmission. According to the engineering team, the 2,400-pound Singer 911 will sprint to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is in excess of 170 MPH."

Very nice, but that lower front air dam looks a little too modern....doesn't fit the rest of the car to my eyes.

I thought that car was 'very, very cool' based on the pictures... then I read about the engine, which is far beyond coolness. Simply epic.

Porsche is selling a special edition of the 911 in honor of the 1973. I ran into the article yesterday. I thought it'll be good to share.

I am surprised to see so much power from a N/A flat 6. Beautiful car either way.

A lot of the "Frankfurt auto show" cars there were sitting in the airport when I landed in Germany a week or so ago, the Sergeant that met me at the airport was just about to have to start prying me away from 'em by the time we got out, was a pretty neat experience.

These types of cars are beautiful and have a place, but I would be too scared to own one. I would never track it our of fear that the irreplaceable version would be screwed up. If I drove it on the street, then it would be only on good weather days and wouldn't really be getting what this car is designed for out of it.

That is why I love the E30 M3. Iconic, but still drivable everyday and would still track it.

I've always had a hard on for flared or wide body 914's & 914-6's. Stockish like this one...

Or more hardcore like this...

This car was at a couple track days I've done. He's got a 3.2 twin plug motor in it. These pics do nothing for it. It is an absolutely beautiful and impressive car in person. Give a ******** for it in a heartbeat.

The duckbill spoiler on the tip of that bumper (the black bit) is very reminiscent of the styling back in the day. VWs and BMWs (If memory servers) had spoilers of this sort in the 70's. The twist is the holes on the ends, which in my opinion adds just enough modern quality. That, and it probably serves much larger brakes than the car had originally...

No offense, just an FYI...
