This weekend at Infineon
It was pouring rain, cold, and windy as hell. But I think I witnessed the biggest act of unsportsmanlike conduct I have ever seen. We always rent the North garage (closest to the main grandstands) and while we had 4 hours to kill between qualifying and the race we watched a few of the other race groups. The Spec E30s, SM, CMC...etc, etc.
Then the Star Mazda guys (or whatever they call themselves) went out. The race started fine. The leader started pulling away for P2, then the next lap came around and he wasnt there. He was in about 6th or 7th. Driving his way back through the field. After trying to late brake another guy going into 11, he must have either wheel hopped or just lost it and hit the outside wall, right where the tires start. Before the rest of the field had even gone by he had gotten out of the car, tossed the wheel, and started walking. Now he didnt hop over the wall and walk down the pits. He walked around the outside of 11 (on the track) jumped the pit wall, then he jumped the next wall towards the shops on the other side of 11. And just walked off, left the car there. Never even came back. So after the session ended they had to hold the next group while safety pulled the car out, and took it to their shop. I couldnt believe it. He just left. Safety should have just dropped that car in the middle right over the Infineon logo.
Other than that it was a blast racing in the rain. Especially since we dont get to run rain tires, we have to run the same Hoosier in all conditions. So I went from a 1.47:xx in the dry in February to a 2.19:xx in the wet. But it was a blast.
