Timberland Titan, size 14.

Only thing that I ever have a problem with "catching" is that the cuff of my left pants leg often gets caught on the hood release handle. Hardly the fault of my shoes, though.

For driving around town I wear a pair of Piloti G16s that I've had for a few years. They are quite comfy.

For track I have a pair of Simpsons with dat Nomex shizz yo.

If your issue is the heel catching on the carpet, you just need something with a more rounded heel than you'd find on a typical dress shoe or boot. Pretty much any Piloti or Puma would solve that.

I stopped into the Puma store at the mall this weekend. They have some styles that I thought looked pretty good. I'm just not sure if I can get away with rocking them around town being that I'm not a tiny little Asian dude.

He's not kidding. We went to the autocross together last year.

I can see where the thin soles of the Chuck Taylors and the Vans might make a cheap, workable solution.

Don't laugh. I'm still trying to learn to walk in them.

Onitsuka Tigers:

I tried a pair of these and a pair of pumas. These win hands down in every way. Pumas feel too stiff for my taste and also seem a bit heavy. These are more like running shoes, they weigh basically nothing.

I have some Piloti Monacos and never wear them. The rounded back of the heel is nice I guess but the soles are way too thick. I feel the pedals way better wearing something like Adidas Sambas.

No, I'm not kidding in the least. Even given the size of my feet, these things work just fine for driving a Miata. The only thing that's a little different for me is my heel-toe technique. I put the brake pedal right under the ball of the foot, and then roll my foot sideways, so that I operate the throttle with the right side of the boot (the leather part) rather than any part of the sole.

Works just fine.

Now, for driving a Westie, this obviously wouldn't work.

A while back, I bought a pair of Converse all-stars. Never could quite get used to them...

Thats why I dont wear my Pilotis much, they are so stiff they numb the feeling.

Adidas makes a nice range of driving shoes similar to the Puma Speedcat.

Even Rockport has some...

I wonder how these glove shoes would feel.
