If you are like me, and have played ALL of the Sierra adventure games (and then some) when you were in school or college, then you will LOVE this game called Machinarium.

It has a free web demo (no installation needed!) and the game is $20, downloadable on the PC. I just finished it and I highly recommend it, even though its kinda short - yeah, I'm used to long-ish adventure games.

I haz Dosbox for that. I grew up on Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest and so many others, so it's kinda hard to do without them every now and then.

My favorite games are the X series:

X3: Reunion
and
X3: Terran Conflict
are the two most recent titles. You will want a 3d joystick if you want to play this game. You'll also want an endless supply of time. It is the most addictive game I've ever played. It is also a sandbox game. There are no limits to how far you can go with it. Graphically, its an incredibly beautiful game. The games publisher promotes fan scripting and modding which really takes the game to a whole different level. I crave a publisher that can design more games like it. I've looked for years: No others exist. There truly are no other games like it, and if your mind can handle deep planning/thinking, (and you can get through the first 6 hours of gameplay without quitting,) then I think you can thoroughly enjoy this game.

Yes, there's "adventure" to it, and there's a storyline that progresses as fast or as slow as you're ready for it.

 

They're not adventure, they're action games!

I never got past 30 minutes with that game, it's uber complex when you first start off. I managed to fly into a ring thing and then somehow went for a spacewalk, but when I touched the ship I instandly died.

Gave up after that.

Yeah, Roger Wilco & I spent a fair bit of time together back in Jr. High school. And King Graham & Co., and Sonny Bonds, and whatshisname from Hero Quest, etc.

Actually, there have been a couple of relatively decent fan-made games in the Space Quest series, built on the original AGI game engine. Came out in the early '00s? One was called Space Quest 0, the other Space Quest: The Lost Chapter. And actually, while googling around to find those links, I found a new one: Space Quest IV.5 The Voyage Home. Gotta check that out.

 

Call me a pack rat, but I still have ALL the original boxes, disks and manuals from those games. I still remember the "tourist guide"-style manual from Larry 3 and the "police manual"-style manual from PQ3, and so on. Copy protection at it's best!

The learning curve is insanely steep for the first 2 hours of gameplay or so, after that, you have months upon months of ever-changing and challenging gameplay to await you. I had a new computer and the latest title of the series and wanted to start on it; had already played the two previous titles. I spent most of the first day setting up my joystick/controls because my joystick profiles wouldnt port from the X45 to the X52 :( - damnation!
