Agreed. I would own one if I had funds for a large garage. I love the STI version

Mom has a BRZ.

It is great to drive, very fun.

Yeah, that dip is annoying.

She drives fairly easy, but does redline it pretty much daily on the way to work and averages like 31MPG with a little bit of traffic involved.

Hers has the crickets, and from I have seen and read, its nothing but a small audible annoyance, no functional problem.

No issues at all from hers, though the auto is also a tad clunky in very low speed areas. I think it shifts differently from a traditional auto, more sequentially.

The paddles are actually fun for what they are, and the bleep when you try to make it money shift is funny. My guess is that bolt-ons, tune, and reprograming the trans would make a big difference. Along with tires that are not from an overgrown Prius.

Interior room is not bad at all IMHO. If you take out the rear seats, you have a cavern back there sort of like a lot of fastback style cars do.

Love the oil filter location.

It is indeed like a large Miata. And that includes the fact that it feels like my '95 at about 70 when its actually doing 120.

Mom has already asked about how to get more power from the thing LOL.

She got it new, it was right around 30, and overall she is happy about it. The fact that I had to put a new 3.7L POS into her paid-off Liberty did not sit well though. If anyone wants Liberty parts, let me know. I have no idea why you would, but I have them.

Thanks for the input. It's a done deal, I'm going to get one, just a matter of how soon.

I'd part with my 66k mile '07 WRB 5MT example if the right offer came along.

Sorry you're not a grandpa so you don't quite meet the requirements...

Ive been craving an FXT as of late. One of the OKC guys has an exceptional example. On the BRZ though, I've heard that a little corn fuel can wake them up without having to worry about fuel system bs BecauseDI. Horsetrack infield tomorrow FYI.

Truth is that almost any car will take to some alcohol just fine. The whole "You need 11ty-billion CC injectors!" thing is very much over-blown. Early 90s cars with a 2-3 gallons of ethanol on top of 91 piss in a 12-14 gallon tank run better and don't knock. Maybe they run leaner, but that's fine since they are also running cooler and with a slower flame front. So maybe it runs ZOMG .8 leaner AFR at WOT and peak TQ, but it still has no detonation.

I may just fill up my 100% stock 95 and dial in ALLOFIT on timing before I rebuild just to see what happens. My guess is nothing.

With the knock detection on modern stuff combined with stock widebands in everything nowadays, they probably do have the advantage of tuning themselves to use the detonation resistance. The N55 BMW engines certainly do. And DI does not have narly the preignition worries either. Cool stuff.

And this perfectly illustrates my ADD.

I decided it was dumb to take a car that will paid off in ~12 months (not to mention being nice and low miles) and buy a $30,000 4 cylinder car.

So I'm just going to address the shortcomings of the NC and keep.

Ordered an Open Flash Tablet today for tuning, and as soon as FM releases the coilover kit they are developing that will go on the car as well.

18psi 08-15-2014 04:35 PM

didn't we..................nevermind

That's actually a good idea dude. Glad you....umm....came to that conclusion ;)

z31maniac 08-15-2014 06:15 PM

Yeah I know.

turbofan 08-15-2014 07:01 PM

Brilliant! Why didn't we think of that?

I know how you feel.

So... build thread?

z31maniac 08-15-2014 08:19 PM

Once I get going, yes, I'll make one.

From what I've read the NC1s had very conservative tunes, so even stock there is some decent gains to be made. The car is bone stock except for an FM muffler.

I've also read intakes don't really make any more power on the NCs either.

So once I decide what header/midpipe combo to go with things will begin in earnest.

Then it will be the new FM coilover setup they are developing, FM sways, wheels and that should be a good starting point.

For those still interested in picking up good deals on FRS/BRZ.

For Sale: 2013 FRSorry. Now I don't know any of my friends are selling their FRS, so I am selling mine. $16K firm. You get short throw shifter, rear diff bushings, custom light exhaust and part of my titanium exhaust. I still have to put the car back together so officially it's available one week after Nationals. 41K miles and everything else is stock. Thanks!
