Damn- no wonder you guys are sore. Looks like the pole connected with the butt end of the frame rail. That buckle in the fender that runs up to the top mount is significant of a very hard hit also.

Years ago I took a hit just behind the driver's door and opted to have it repaired (back when the car was worth more $) but wouldn't do it nowadays with price of straight Miatas.

I pulled a diff out the trash that looked just like that and the guts were perfect. 2nd gen rx7 rear housing and miata bushings (move 'em over?) might fix it up.

Wow, sorry to hear this. If one can find any good news out of this, it is you spun and hit the rear. The front would have caused engine damage and worse yet, the sides may have caused human damage.

That's what i told my neighbor, she was like it could be worse, and I said "yeah, i could have hit the front."

The muffler is a bit banged up, but I think a new outlet welded on it, and it'll be fine.

I actually have another carrier for the diff, what I need is a new frame and clean body to put it on.

I dunno, looking at all my pics, its pretty much all cosmetic damage. I don't think the frame is bent, however, the passenger fender, door, and entire rear panels are gone. Muffler looks ok, but the tip is bent, and the carrier gave way but all the components like the brace and sway bar look fine.

yeah i usually don't drift on wet concrete 2-lane bridges with barriers on both sides...

as you can see, there's a lot of straight between the concrete bridge and when i finally hit the damn pole. I tried really hard to keep it going straight down the road, but I'm out of practice in stunt driving.

I suspect your diff is fine. My Torsen looked exactly like that when I bought it- the mounting "wing" was broken in the same place. I put a new carrier on it, and it works fine.

The chassis on the other hand looks like a writeoff to me. Never mind the work it would take to straighten out the quarter panel- I'm guessing that the framerail and rear subframe (and the area that the rear subframe mounts to) got whacked hard enough that the car will never track straight again.

I like your plan re: the insurance company. If you can walk away with $3k and the remains of the car then I think you're in good shape. Do some searching down in Florida- you'll find plenty of ultra-high-mileage NAs with bad tops and junk engines but good, rust-free bodies.
