So my school had to ditch our native american mascot (and im glad we did), but heres our new choices

He will fight my griffin, his name will be muffin.
He will wear a wig of golden locks, and i will parade him through the village
for the children to see. He will sing show tunes, enticing the children.

a school in Frisco Texas is the "fighting coons."

The chearleaders literally say "go coon."

At least its a ******* animal, they have to prune their mascot.

 

They changed my old university from the "eagles" to "the mean green." Mean Joe Green was an old *** NFL player...and not that ******* spectacular. I ******* hate that school...they do rediculous ****.

 

I never did understand this. I think a Brave (Warrior) would be a compliment, not some discrimination thing. I could understand if they called them the drunken squaws or something like that. Braves kick ***.

There is a college down here (Newberry Indians) that is changing as well.

BTW, my high school was the South Parkersburg Patriots (mascot had one of those Paul Revere triangular hats). We were a newer school in an old town and if you were cool you called us the Rebels (as in south of the mason-dixon line) and sometimes waved the rebel flag. If you did that now, you would probably get sued (especially in Charleston, SC where I currently live). A lot has changed in the past 20 years.

 

Whereas I can see that the brave thing could be seen as a compliment its not my place to decide, a group of native americans find it offensive, i have no choice but to believe them.

Plus U of I is the fighting illini and I want nothing closely related to that poor excuse for a mascot.

actually stanford's mascot is the cardinal. not the bird. the color. stanford used to be the indians as well. I guess the 'bama's crimson tide is similar but meh.

my hs was also once the indians, and to copy stanford or something, we changed it to the color cardinal. and then the student body was like wtf? so we changed it to the cardinals (bird).

 

Those are all offensive to me.....

my college is going through similar crap. Our team is the Colonels, and our mascot was a colonel dressed in a grey uniform. Well, so many people complained that our mascot was a confederate military character, that they are trying without success to find a replacement. Nevermind how much that era in history had an impact on this part of the world. I can't comment on how right or wrong it was, but it happened.
