You do if you want one in .327 right now... and CDNN still has a few in blue and duo-tone. I got an email a few weeks ago and they were trying to blow-out the duotone for $199. I might shall have one.

And yes, I understand that Taurus isn't exactly the "Colt" of the revolver world, but my budget does not extend even to a cheap Smith.

There are a number of options out there, I'd just rather not buy new unless I have to.

2 that I'm really considering are White Oak and Nordic. Both are sort of a compromise, I want something like the JP lightweight barrel... but its over twice the cost... same with Noveske and other higher end options.

 

Agreed. I've been looking for a decent 18-20" lightweight barrel for a while. I have no doubt that JP/Noveske all make great barrels, but the price... ouch. I'm seeing $200+/- options on WhiteOaks site:

I may pick up their A3 20" variant, but it appears to be a HBAR style barrel. I can't find a 20" pencil barreled upper anywhere at the moment.

For another $20, they have the above with a fluted barrel, but its still an HBAR style barrel.

No luck on decent 18" uppers though. Elesjuan turned me on to these guys when he did his lightweight build, they seem to make decent products but I can't vouch for accuracy or anything. At $250 is cheap enough that I'm not super worried about it. I figure one could always upgrade the barrel later if you don't like it.

You'll love that Burris... I had a 1.5-6x XTR on my Ar10, the XTR reticle was pretty accurate for hold-over too as long as you where shooting ammo close to what it's calibrated for.

I went to Academy this morning and threw down.

It was $279+tax. I also got an Uncle Mikes holster (pic'd) and 200rds of Winchester white box... 100rds of FMJ and 100rds of JHP.

Yesterday I got the weekly CDNN email... this exact gun in .327 Federal Magnum was $239, with another $20 to ship and another $20 to my FFL, exactly the same price minus tax. But I started doing the math on what it would cost to shoot, and the .327 would have been about double for ammo, and finding any of the 3 calibers it shoots in a store is a rarity, whereas .38spl you can almost get at Wawa. I really love the idea of the .327FM, but when I do eventually buy a large-caliber revolver, it'll probably be a 3" .357 just like everybody else.

I really like the grey finish and will be looking at laser options here shortly... and since this is really a present for the wife (once I convince her that guns aren't evil self-aware sentient beings that kill babies for fun) there will be some pink grips on it soon.

I wore it for a couple hours today and it just disappears at the 3 o'clock IWB position in a way that my PF9 doesn't.

And yes, I have big hands.

I bought one of these as well. I like it, but everyone I talk to seems to be of the opinion that its a ***** gun because I didnt spend at least $900. Personally, the only thing I dont like about it is that the bbl isnt chromed, so I can agree with people there(and replace it at my leisure). But for the price, I can deal without a dust cover and a fwd assist. Plus, some of the reviews Ive read are pretty promising even without those features. The only other feature I do not like is the front sight. But, I can change that with the bbl.

However, now I have the bug to build one, just to see how cheaply I can do it.

 

The "forward assist" is for people who can't be bothered to clean their weapons.

In ten years in the Army, I've never had to touch the forward assist on an M4/M16.

If you don't have the time to shoot some oil in the action and run a rag around the chamber before you've fired enough rounds to need the forward assist, then you've got bigger issues than "I should've paid extra for an upper with FA on it".
