Yah, for this build I saw 0 need for a FA or deflector. Going for the KISS format on this one.

It'll be a bench/3gun rifle.

If you don't have the time to shoot some oil in the action and run a rag around the chamber before you've fired enough rounds to need the forward assist, then you've got bigger issues than "I should've paid extra for an upper with FA on it".
I will do my best Pusha impersonation here: "You guys are all ****."

How'd I do?

You missed the part where you say "It is not a Colt, so I don't care".

I don't think that's Israel...

Every hot chick I saw carrying an M4 around Israel had that ---- loaded with double mags.

How to fail at building an AR:

Measure the ID of your stock and then order the wrong buffer tube. +1week
Use phone to order barrel... not notice you chose Remington chamber vs Wylde. +1week
Forget to order a charging handle. +1week

Sigh... I got as much of the lower together as possible without a buffer tube available and the entire upper has to wait on the correct barrel.

That being said... the AR Gold trigger feels awesome in dry firing.

Does colt even make something that is specifically suited to what I'm intending to use this for? (Looks like they just released a future release thing at 2012 Shot show) I'd rather build it than buy it... despite the extra cost in building.

Will report back on how it shoots once I get the stupid thing built, broken in and build up some reloads for it. Expectations are 0 recoil, sub MOA mid/long range capabilities (max 500 yards) and LIGHT.

if you aren't going to be carrying it around all day, what do you care what it weighs?

It's a gaming gun, balance of weight/length/recoil = speed = points.

Remember, I'm a hobby/game guy... not fighting for my life with this thing.

Do not put hot dogs in your butt... apparently that's bad.

No time for those shenanigans. My time tonight is for more handload testing at the range, testing a new barrel in my M&P and going to try out the new scope on my other AR.

And now... I'm back on the AR bandwagon. It won't be a Colt.

I think I'm all set on the style of upper I want to buy, but the lower stuff is still giving me fits. Been doing a little homework and am thinking that just about any stripped lower that doesn't have a skull or rebel flag engraved on it will be fine... but the rest of the kit, ie... LPK, buffer assembly, stock, grip, etc... is tough since I have almost no experience actually shooting AR's.

How are the DPMS/Stag/RRA LPK's... $60.

I'm thinking basic M4 adjustable stock assembly... $50-$75
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/M4-St...ec%20black.htm

And a whatever name-brand (PSA, etc) lower receiver... $80
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...r15-lower.html

Is there more to it?

Not really.

My gun has a lot of money tossed into barrel/trigger/carrier components because I am building specifically for accuracy/recoil/response. The rest is run of the mill bits and pieces (upper/lower/stock/grip/lower components).

If you just want a shooter, probably any of those options listed will work fine. I think my other AR lower/upper is all DPMS and I enjoy shooting it.
