The only reason I won't openly protest these sort of shows is the amount of positive attention they bring toward the "firearm lifestyle". This breed of show, however wrong it may be in many regards, brings a certain degree of firearm education into the average home. While people like me refuse to watch the show because I know it's all bullshit, it's good to know that people are watching it thinking "man, I could do that too!" like the law clerk said.

And the "firearm lifestyle" I hint at is the same thing as "car guys". The sort of people who get into a hobby because it's in vogue at the time while possessing no real knowledge or desire to learn (remember the chopper fad?). These are the people you see wearing multicam clothing in public and infidel t-shirts running around gun shows buying up MOLLE gear and sapi plates like it's crack. They watch nutnfancy religiously and swear that their Spikes Tactical is the end-all, be-all AR. They scoff at Colts for being "outdated" and "overpriced" yet they'll outfit their rifles with enough accessories to make Eugene Stoner cringe.

What I described above is only the top 10% of this new wave of gun enthusiast. The other 90% sell their souls to Tapco.

I had the severe disdain of going to a gun show this weekend and the amount of people talking about WROL/SHTF/ZOMBIE INVASION made me want to grab the CZ Tokarev knock-off from their hand and end it all.

I was given my first firearm when I was 2, I've been here my entire life and I'll be here when you decide WROL/SHTF/ZOMBIE INVASION won't be coming in your lifetime so I'll buy all your guns.

If anyone correctly guesses my first firearm, I'll mail him or her 5 (FIVE) P mags and an assortment of take-off Colt 6920 parts.*

*provided such items are legal in your state/county/whatever

So if a person wanted to learn about guns in a way other then scrolling through wikipedia articles and watching youtube videos (nutnfancy & hickok45 come to mind, but I ain't watching 35 minute long nutnfancy videos), where would you suggest a person look to gain some useful knowledge? Preferably in the form of a medium like a blog/show/magazine, something like that.

it was an integrally suppressed Ruger MK II. my old man wanted to get me something I could shoot and not have to wear ear protection (I had some bad ear infections when I was a kiddo) at that tender age.

thanks to the two of you who played and yes, my Single Six is easily my favorite handgun.

I'm 23. It was (LEGALLY) purchased in 1990 from an ATF-licensed manufacturer.

If you guys would like to trade parts and stuff, I have plenty of **** lying around. I have a big rubbermaid container full of random stuff.

That's cool! Do you still have that MKII?

My first gun was a hand me down Red Ryder from the 1970s. The immediate family were pretty neutral about firearms, however the extended family on both sides were and still are avid hunters / firearm nuts so I still grew up around firearms and archery just the same.

LMAO @ nutnfancy reference.. Thank god gun shows aren't like that around here.. Though, I'd bet the vendors are counting on those arrrtards considering they're packing up the retail store to travel the country and sell **** @ retail prices.. Most of the people I see running around shows are country folk, old timers and the occasional younger person. Not to say the MOLLE tacti-cool kiddies aren't there, just not very many.

Honestly, tough as it is to admit, I kind of dig the zombie invasion theory to a point. I'm an active member of the American Red Cross, trained CERT and RACES member. The invasion theory makes reaching out to younger people easier for education in real life emergency and disaster preparedness. Seems that most I meet and discuss the topic with honestly don't believe such a thing as "zombies" will ever exist but seem to actively think about what they're going to do and prepare for a disaster.

I don't like to openly talk about WROL or even spend any time thinking about it. Will it happen in our lifetime? That's not for me to say, I just hope to hell we're right and it does not. The recent violent uprising in Great Britain and their government's failure to take action concern me slightly though.

No, it was sold for a pretty penny though. I don't really care, I only shot it twice. I think it was more of a toy for my old man.

My future wife is going to have to understand certain things.

You're lucky. I can't go to a range without being told I could benefit from having a flashlight mounted to my rifle.

Sometimes there are hurricanes in my area. During a particularly bad one almost 20 years ago (Hurricane Andrew), I remember my old man loading up a little something something for anyone who thought it'd be a good idea to try to break into our hacienda. Thankfully, no one did but you never know. When big hurricanes hit and people go crazy is probably the closest I'll ever be to one of those situations and the few times it's happened, it hasn't been too bad. I can always give 600 reasons to not enter my home.

Random video:

People like this are the problem. Not only are his lessons totally retarded and impractical but it feeds the theory that ANYONE talking about guns ANYWHERE is an expert. No "operator" would waste his time making videos like this or posting on the Internet.

The guy who puffs up his chest the most at gun stores and goes on those "I carry xyz because I value my life.." knows fuckall.

I have a long list of people I hate but let me just focus on one group right now. The people who have firearm related stickers on their cars. Holy **** do I hate those people. Not only does it act as a huge indicator to any mopes cruising for a car to break into but it lets perhaps the most dangerous people know there is probably a gun in the car, the police.
