Not a fan of 5 mile config. But I have wanted to do thunderhill when its green.
3 mile thunderhill bypass then cyclone is pretty much the best config you can get for a weekend.

I'm supposed to work with speed ventures that weekend but can work around that. Beyond that, the fact that's nationals may possibly make it difficult.
The HoD May event would be the same price (right?) and runs the 3 mile and 5 mile configs, perhaps that'd be another option?

One thing to keep in mind is that unlike Laguna Seca, Thunderhill doesn't have dedicated county park camping areas that you can rent individually. Camping in the paddock is available at some events, but it depends on whether or not the organizers paid for overnight security and I don't know what HoD typically does in this regard. (Note that unlike Laguna, even without paddock camping, Thunderhill is generally OK with people dropping trailers off in the paddock the night before, between about 5:30 and 6).
I actually can't attend the Sep 12-13 event, at least not the first day, because I would have to leave around noon on Sep 11 and that's my daughter's birthday.
The 5 mile isn't my favorite config, but it does have one area that I really like. There's a right sweeper into a left-right S over a crest where you transition from the 2 mile track back onto the 3 mile that's really fun.
If you want a weekend when it's green, the April NCRC event is probably the right choice.

I know you are anti track-masters. Any of their events on the schedule?
All the events I've done at Thunderhill they have also rented the paddock for camping, so that is something we will have to keep in mind.
Not sure any of us are actually tenting on the ground though...

I personally feel like the west course is slightly more fun for our cars. Unless you make **** tons of power.
HOD events tens to be $$ in my research. So id rather not run with them for a weekend. GGLC would be the optimal group to run with imo.
As far as camping goes, ive slept outside the gates in a sleeping bag on the grass before. But im also 5 years old according to you guys so my body is fine with that.
Edit: also, **** the cyclone. Kills flow hard. plus its real easy to lock up going up the crest of you aren't careful.

HoD events are not the cheapest around, but in my experience are well-run and usually feature less traffic than other groups.
The West course has a bit of a bad reputation because it's slower and more technical than the East course, but I think it's fun. They've also added an optional bypass around a couple of the slowest corners that also eliminates the "for best lap times you need to drive straight at the pit wall" problem as well.
Are you actually planning on attending, George?

I think 350whp should be plenty
I am, assuming all the stars line up. HoD not being the organizer is one of those stars.
