i have pictures, ill get them up tonight.

Well I think I pretty much damaged my rear running it dry. I'm pretty sure the bearings are bad, maybe even the ring gear and that's most of my power loss.

cause this isn't cool:

how much boost for those pulls would be nice.

cardriverx 05-04-2009 02:29 PM

third gen, how much boost are you running?

Braineack 05-04-2009 03:02 PM

he peaked at 11.5psi and then it dropped the 9.5psi by redline, IIRC.

the_man 05-04-2009 05:10 PM

Mine peaked around 8.5psi, dropped pretty fast after 5500 or so. Damn AFM.

Dyno logs...

So I uploaded my datalogs as I datalogged every dyno pull I made on Saturday. I did 3 pulls. The first datalog, I peak at 11.9psi at 5276 RPM and I let off at 6833 RPM where I dropped to 9.7psi. Second dyno, I peak at 5147 RPM where I hit 12 psi. Why does my boost fall off like this?
P.S. I just today upgraded my stock 2" midpipe with a resonator, to a 2.5" no cat no resonator midpipe. So now my entire exhaust is 2.5". Hopefully this should help me out a little. Hey Brain, what's up with those easytherm values?Attachment 11624

cardriverx 05-04-2009 08:16 PM

This toms car? haha, those are the wheels and tires I was looking at at action discount tires!!!

I was like " That lip is way to big for the miata, no way it would fit". lol little did I know! Nice wheels.

mm, imma have to raise my boost then.

What's with you guys running filters right off the compressor housing? I've seen a turbo car drop almost 30 whp on the dyno when moving the filter from a cooler location to right off the compressor housing. This was an 800 whp car, but the the negative effects are noticeable and should still be on cars making 1/4 the power.

Agreed. I think that Tim and I do not usually run that way, but were doing do temporarily for convenience sake. I know Tim was testing his new turbo manifold with a borrowed turbo so probably just grabbed the closest filter that fit. In fact, I believe that was one of the filters off his tinier twin turbo setup. Mine is just there right now to keep anything from entering the turbine while I work on the car as the turbo intake will be the last piece to allow access to everything else.

Hell, our first dyno day in DE there was a 700+ hp mustang that gained like 50-70hp by removing his filter altogether.

Every time I have dynoed, regardless of the setup, I have had a very difficult time maintaining target boost as RPMs rise. Even this time, after 5 dyno runs and increasing the wastegate duty cycle an additional 20%!!, I could only muster 13psi at redline on my last pull. I have no problems on the street. I don't understand it exactly.

Yah, like Tom said it was a spare filter I needed quick, and it fit. Most of the time the filters melt when you ahve them on the compressor housing.

We removed the filter for my second pull and gained/lost nothing. So that "tiny" filter is more than big enough for the particular setup/tune.

ArtieParty 05-05-2009 12:48 PM

Tim took off his filter on his 3rd run and saw little to no difference.

Yah, it was a spare filter I needed quick, and it fit. Most of the time the filters melt when you ahve them on the compressor housing. It was left over from my GReddy turbo setup.

EDIT: yeah it may have been the 3rd like artie says, I forget.
