MD/VA/PA Fall Dyno Day and Meet Oct 15 '11
Oh, that would seem more reasonable. I think they didn't wind it all the way out on the first couple pulls, and then I left to go look at another car while they did a few more pulls. I do remember it being crazy rich, guess that provides some safety margin for an air cooled engine.

well, I was at 83 whp on a pretty stock 1.6 with 67K miles on the engine. Ed asked me about my diff and I mistakenly told him it's a 4.3, but it is actually a 4.1 Not to mention the annoying exhaust leak. Not sure if this explains why so low, I am very tempted to run a leak down test on the car. The compression I did a couple of weeks ago was great (175 across all 4) so not sure what else could explain the low output.

assuming a linear relationship (this may be a faulty relationship), the mighty 83 whp would turn into 87 whp (which is probably closer to what I would expect of the engine).

nah he fixed yours because the redlines matched. the only thing it would chang ein this case would be the hp vs rpm. where the computer might have shown 85hp at 4k instead of 7k.
but i do think he did something odd when lars got strapped up, maybe he had the load turned up or something, but i do notice he doesn't run it like I'd expect on a dyno dynamics, where he would be WOT and turn the load on his controller to bring it to redline.

so that means the final gear ratio is important, as well as actually KNOWING what is the final gear ratio. is there a way to "re-calculate" what the dyno would have read with a 4.1 diff ratio setting (instead of 4.3 which is what Ed assumed).

I looked, I am not running enough. I was hitting around 200kpa.
