So it was a good day at the dyno. I ended up making the most power at about 240hp, unfortunately my car was shooting flames out that back which was causing us not to go to redline. On the street I am not having the problem. So I need to figure that out. I am definitely upset that I could not hit 300hp. Hopefully soon I can afford to actually go dyno tuned and figure hit the power numbers I want.

102hp, yeahhh!! So exhaust, cops, exhintake, seafoam and a better tune netted me 8hp. And I guess I didn't quite drill the cam gear in the right place for the exhintake mod cause max power is now at 6000rpm vs 6400... anyways, here's a vid of Lars making fire.

I had a great time as always meeting all you guys in person. By next dyno I swear I'll have a stronger bottom end and a Godspeed gt3076.

I took a nap and played some Resistance 3 and saw a movie.

I think I felt maybe like 1/4 hp.

I made it out for Chipotle afterwards. Rolled up and everyone was gone. It was a good day to drive topless though. A bit cool so my nips were perky.

It was fun and definitely a great day for a ride. Still unhappy I don't have my Miata yet...
But it was great meeting all of you and to see that turbo Miatas are alive and well. It's also incredible to see that no two engine setups are even remotely close to identical! I wish I'd seen more Miata runs, but I can't wait for spring when I can Dyno my own!

Anyway- here's some random pictures from my phone:

He was definitely changing something trying to get rpms right. They should have been close because he had them right in the spring with his original settings. Ed also kept trying to run in 4th and I had to keep telling him to run in 5th.

Did you happen to get a print off of my runs? I totally forgot to ask him for them. Maybe I will call up tomorrow and ask if he could fax them to me or something.

Why would 4th vs 5th affect hp? I thought that the only effect would just be to make the pull longer?

My wideband was reading about half a point leaner than the dynos based on my logs. Lars probably just fried the o2 sensor with his fireballs.

I'm kind of wondering if something was going on, as I was a good bit down on power from the spring (98 peak vs 105) without significant changes to the car. The plot was much smoother this time after messing with the AE settings and the powerband looked the same but was shifted down everywhere.

Soviet, what were you putting down in the spring? I was peaking at 105 in the spring with an exhaust, crappy tune, and a ghetto shopvac hose intake. Did anyone else see some odd variations between previous runs and yesterday? I figured with as cool as it was yesterday if anything things would be skewing higher.

But when Lars' car was running under low load and not boosting the wideband read 14.7 constant as it should in closed loop (assuming Lars' car goes CL). So under non-rich conditions it seemed OK.

In spring I was at 94hp but with stock exhaust, stock intake cam and stock ignition.

well, I was at 83 whp on a pretty stock 1.6 with 67K miles on the engine. Ed asked me about my diff and I mistakenly told him it's a 4.3, but it is actually a 4.1 Not to mention the annoying exhaust leak. Not sure if this explains why so low, I am very tempted to run a leak down test on the car. The compression I did a couple of weeks ago was great (175 across all 4) so not sure what else could explain the low output.

Soooo why does this guy have to enter anything for gear ratio? This is what makes this type of dyno 'better' than a dynojet?

Do you get your $50 back if the dyno operator fails?

Nice to see some of you guys again. I got to see part of an old turbo porsche's dyno run.

because instead of a pickup on the ignition, the dyno reads the engine speed by the rollers themselves.

That's what I assumed when I saw the Porsche run, but I assumed that was because they couldn't reach the spark plugs under the intercooler. But really? No RPM pickup?
