Then stop by, I am 10 minutes from the 101. Spa, pool, quiet, hiking. Not to mention my wife can cook.
Way there or back..

I would offer more folks but parking is kind of tricky around here, especially with a trailer.

However, if Aidan is in need we will figure something out. He can park in the lot next door.
Thanks for the kind offer! However, I'm not heading north this year -- just cutting across Nevada from southern Utah.

I'm now officially in B group on Saturday! I'm going to have to do a few more events at Laguna before Oct so I can take full advantage of the faster group.

Group C Sunday. I'm pretty happy to be going to MRLS for the first time... I hope I'm in the right group.

How many track days do you have overall? Typically group C is NOT where you belong on your first day at Laguna (or really anywhere for that matter)

I have about a dozen trackdays, 4 or 5 TSD rallys, some HPDE lessons and 12 or 15 autox days. I've also done time attack and hold a TA license. Are you saying I'll be holding up the group? Where do you suggest I belong?

Oh I should add... I'm interested in the Trackmaster event on Friday so it may be day 2 at MRLS for me by Sunday.

A dozen track days is pretty reasonable for C group.

ur good. B group may be an even better fit if you can get a spot depending on your car setup

What? No. Nobody should be in B group their very first day at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca unless they hold a racing license or something.

I'd say if you do a lower group at the Trackmasters day and ideally get an instructor to ride along, you should be fine.

I mean, C is sortof an in-between group. you might shoot Doug an email before registration to see what he recommends with your experience, but I would think you should do D friday and C or maybe B Sunday.

If he does the friday event he should be good for C. Laguna isn't the most complicated track to learn.

New tracks aren't that complex to learn, if you've got a dozen track days and know what you're doing, learning the line on a new track shouldn't take more than a session.

Honestly, it is more important to be comfortable with the level of drivers in your group than knowing the track. If you are aware of other drivers, the limits of your driving ability and know how to look for and read the safety flags you can be significantly slower than other drivers without being unsafe or a nuisance (kind of the world most experienced miata drivers inhabit at regular track days with Porsches and Ferraris)

The problem with C is the range of drivers. For some reason (maybe just based on number of track days) there are people who just will not use their mirrors and never give a point by.

I wish they followed GGLC rules where intermediate drivers can over take on straights without a point by. At first I was sceptical but it worked great at my last event and I think it was even easier on less experienced drivers because they didn't need to take their hand off the wheel or change their line. You just passed when it was safe and made sense or waited till you were through the turns.

Lastly, Laguna Seca is a choice on almost all of the driving games and it really is the next best thing to driving on the track. Sure, you can't feel the elevation changes but you can learn the line and memorize the turns.
